Nah no smugness, just don't care for brand new, the scene would be better without them.

I really, really dislike Daisy. Love Deja and YFW. Pretty lukewarm on The Devil and God.

 

Oh, it's polarizing for sure, but I'm just confused at how someone can fall asleep during it haha

 

To be perfectly honest, I don't even really remember what it sounds like. I have a vague idea, but I've only listened through it probably 4 or 5 times, and haven't in years. I should probably revisit it lol.

 

Whenever there is a weird tension in this thread I try to think of a cute and endearing unpopular opinion to cut through it but I never can think of one lol

 

Haha yeah. It's not for everyone, obviously. I couldn't sleep through it though -- just too weird.

Not a fan of referring to certain groups of artists and their fans as a "scene".

 

Pretty much me as well. Some songs on Deja, but the record's fallen off a lot for me

 

im pretty much over the whole "music scene" tbh

 

Almost every song on Deja follows the same formula. I like the record but I find it really boring unless I'm in the mood for it.

 

I kind of like Brand New, like I've listened to Deja Entendu a bunch and like it OK but I have no idea why they're such a huge deal to this site

Also I don't think Taking Back Sunday has any bad albums

 

On a similar note I feel that "scene kid" has pretty much completely lost its meaning and is now used as an ad hominem label to slap on somebody whose music taste the other person doesn't agree with and can't handle to try to make the "scene kid's" opinion seem invalid and juvenile. Kinda similar with phrases like "white knight", to be honest. All just used as ad hominem attacks anymore devoid of any original meaning.

 

It seems like a record you had to be there for, to see how it instantly changed the "scene" (here I am using it lol). I didn't even hear it for the first time until 2012, so that probably has a major effect on my feelings towards it.

 

Likewise. I didn't hear it until my senior year of high school (2011) and it just never really hit me like it hit so many others.

 

I like them and I certainly see the appeal, but it's still a little mystifying to me how fervent their fanbase is. I mean, I get it, the band made records that the fans really loved -- but I guess what I don't see what it is about Brand New that commands that kind of intense fandom. I dunno if I'm making any sense haha

To me the term "scene" and the term "emo" were pretty synonymous in the mid to late 00s. So lots of eyeliner, spiked hair, and like... Jelly bracelets.

Oh yeah, to punctuate how ridiculous both those terms are, I've seriously heard people refer to Whitechapel of all things as a "scene" or "emo" band.
