Dizzy disagrees.

Thrice are making much better music than JEW now but they will never write an album better than Clarity or Bleed American.

That's not a criticism either.

 

But Dizzy is a good song though as is Gotta Be Somebody's Blues which I feel are overlooked on that album. Just not on the technically, talent and emotional level of Thrice's best.

 

The only way to settle this is to have a rock off between the two in the style of Tenacious D vs the Devil.

 

Hmmmmm, yeah I can't agree in a personal taste preference but I know the earlier records reached more people overall and are classics in the scene so I can't argue. Why Clarity and not Futures though?

 

2 certainly great bands though. Both did a great job of adapting to keep writing good songs. Although I don't listen to either of them much

 

Futures is a great album that I never feel the desire to listen to.

 

JEW's newest was a huge surprise though. I went in with no expectations and not being a real big fan of the band and i really loved it

 

I like both of their recent albums about the same. A few highlights but mostly unexciting. Probably like IB a bit more than Thrices.

 

I think Clarity's better lol. All three are outstanding - they'd all be in my top 100 records of all time - but Clarity and Bleed American are a little ahead of Futures in my opinion. CTL is a couple of levels down, although the highs are just as high. The rest of their albums are quite a way off that.

 

I liked the new thrice well enough, but I don't think it compares to their early stuff at all. I think Artist through Beggars was their high point for sure.

 

alchemy index 3+4 is my favorite and its not close really

 

I like every JEW album but Integrity Blues is the first that I LOVE since Chase This Light. It totally re-energized my love for the band

No opinion on Thrice

 

Air and Earth? My two favs are Fire and Earth so I'm at cross roads if I had to pic a favorite pair. Probably Fire just because Messenger and Burn the Fleet.

 

Yeah. I hadn't listened to Thrice since I was kid and was stoked to find out they moved on to a more folk rock style

 

I did like that too, and that Beggars had some of the same feel with Double Speak and In Exile.

 

Thrice has never made anything as good as any JEW album from Clarity until now

 

I want to get back to talking about how great The Smiths are.

 

Buddy, Thrice may be the most overrated band on this site

 

i can't even fight anyone on that argument @FTank

mainly because i hate pop punk music and that's all they ever did

 

brand new is easily the most overrated on this site, cmon

 

this makes it sound like i don't like JEW, I do. quite a bit actually

 

Okay probably, but I like BN a good deal more than Thrice.

 

I've never considered JEW to be pop punk really
