yeah he's been recording with them. In interviews he's basically said it's just a recording role and that he isn't "officially" back in the band

Of all the musical posturing I hate, this phrase is probably my least favorite.

yeah lol it's not like saying that is in any way indicative of the quality of the band

Hey now. Look at you. Way cool.

Yellowcard's use of violin is annoying and unnecessary.

  13. I thought it was really gimmicky way back in the day (despite still liking them) but I think over time they really learned how to work it into their music tastefully. It definitely allowed them to expand their horizons in their mid to late career with neat orchestral bits that their contemporaries might attempt but not sound as natural with.

Yeah I wouldn't call it a gimmick just because they don't use it poorly or overuse it. Much like Cursive with their cello/horns.

I go back and forth on it, but I don't really care about artists being 'problematic' anymore, idk how people feel about that. Like, there's obviously a line to be drawn, but I don't think it really needs to be precisely defined. There's a difference between problematic and being a rapist/murderer/etc. etc. tho

I don't let an artist's life color or tarnish their work. Probably as much as anyone here, I'm a believer in separating art and artist. But that's not the same thing as not caring if an artist is a bad person.

Disagree 100% with this - it's a big part of what sets them apart

I think "gimmick" and "what sets them apart" are two ways of phrasing the same idea with different implication.

but I've never listened to that band, don't mind me

And that's a fine mindset to have, but it becomes more difficult when it moves out of theory and into something actually happening. It's hard for me to give attention to an artist that is doing/saying horrible shit.

That's pretty true, I was really just disagreeing with the "annoying and unnecessary" part

I was disagreeing with him there, not you. I still listen to Cosby's work. But I'd never say "I don't care that he's problematic." That's taking the separation too far, imo.

I gotcha, I just think it's easy to say that and hold the theory but hard to put into action. I think older work which you've grown attached to already is one thing, vs. an artist currently being problematic and still putting out music
