  1. Are you referring to the first half, then the second half?

Welcome to Bangkok should open TDAG, not Sowing Season. It's the perfect opening track, and would have been an emphatic way to begin, drawing a line through Deja Entendu.

    forbidden chalice.

Sowing Season does a fantastic job opening the record. Can't see it opening without it or rather, it being anywhere else. It doesn't make much sense to me. Bangkok is a good interlude.

As for the second half, Luca is phenomenal. There's so many minor nuances going on right after the first chorus. Everything up until the "I'm shimmering under a moon" part of that verse is so mesmerizing. Archers and Not The Sun are also great power tracks and I also adore both interludes. I'm not huge on Handcuffs and I do think its a tad bit inferior to the rest of the record, but it closes out the record nicely.

Front half is way better than back half tho

Christian Metal e.g. Or generally "worship music". Or let me put my post in other words: I wish Bands would just stop to talk about how much their faith influences them (e.g. For today). It works like propaganda to younger kids in the scene.

I still need to listen to stuff from In Technicolor haha... the list of music I want to check out keeps growing, in a good way though.

  9. This is a good problem that most of us have. I've purchased CDs recently that I haven't made time to listen to yet, haha

I'm curious, would this be considered an unpopular opinion for users on this site? Sure out in the general public it's blasphemy, but there is a slightly more "hipster" scene on this site.

Also totally agree. I avoid judging artists or bands based on vocals, but in Adele's case her voice is all people talk about, and it's honestly not all that interesting or unique. The lyrics are completely average, and the music isn't anything all that special either. There are many more interesting female artists who will never get a hundreth of the fame Adele has.

A lot of it does have to do with the way people listen to music now. The focus is on the voice, and if someone doesn't have an American Idol perfect voice the most they can hope for is a sort of cult following. Adele has that "perfect voice" and is easy to market, so she sells. Smashing Pumpkins would never have become famous if they had started now, with the current market structure.

i guess but her music is dark and depressing so i'm surprised that she sells so well considering artist like justin bieber katy perry and taylor swift are whats popular

Her music isn't really all that dark and depressing, but it is so to a sort of "safe" level. It doesn't go into any really challenging topics, but still has a darkness to it that attracts people. People tend to view darker, sadder music as more artistic. But, people also don't want their music to challenge or make them have to think outside the box in any way. So for a lot of people, Adele is like their "art" music. I'm really only referring to top 40 listeners here though. And I haven't talked to many people outside of the mainstream who actively like her.

Haha I'm sorry. I definitely don't mean anything that way, I'm tired and am on mobile. Really, that's just what I've gotten from conversations about her with my friends who listen exclusively to top 40 radio. I've always wanted to find people with closer to my music taste who like her to hear that side of things, but haven't had the chance. Music industry stuff interests me a lot though. No harm intended. Haha

I actually argued for this on APnet several times. CDs are cheaper (and are even cheaper now than they were a few years ago), you can play them in your car, use them on a PC to import into your library, and they take up much less space. Vinyl is more expensive, is less convenient, takes up more space. For people who don't have much money and don't have a record player, but still want a physical form of music, CDs are the option. I mean heck, Target is still selling exclusive releases - Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Adele, Selena Gomez, Gwen Stefani, etc.

People use the argument "it's old-fashioned" as if that's supposed to justify something, while they buy vinyl, something that's been around since the 40s...It really is to each their own until either/both go out of print.

I actually agree. In the back of my mind I always think the album is great, but for me that's because there are 5-6 tracks that blow me away and the rest are meh. Rarely listen front to back, I'll just pick my favorite songs.

I like having CDs in my car as backup and I love that people still buy them but for me I just have no room for them. I have boxes filled with them cause I would import them onto my ipod and never look at them again. I try to live my life clutter free and I have nowhere to put them. I don't buy vinyl either tho. I'll still sometimes buy a CD if it's cheaper but it'll just end up collecting dust somewhere. I'll buy digital copies tho

I've bought a lot fewer as of late just because there isn't a huge number of albums I need to own physically and because I pay $10 a month for Apple Music so it's easy to just play that through the car... but for my favorite albums, I'll definitely pay for a CD. And I still like the CD as a format.

I probably had over a 100 CDs in my car at one point, because both my aux port and cassette deck were broke, so there was no way to play music off my phone. I had 3 booklets completely filled and some more CDs scattered around in the seat pockets. Once I got the AUX fixed I got rid of the CDs and now I just play Spotify off my phone.
