recommending mbdtf for kanye is like recommending the 5th harry potter book first lol

 

For real lol. One of the best artists to start from the beginning with and track his progression. Weird.

 

No other way to go with Kanye but to listen straight through his discography from the beginning. It's acceptable to skip his early mixtapes, GOOD Friday releases, WTT, and Cruel Summer during first listen through.

 

MBDTF isn't even Kanye's top 3 albums. Turn this into the rank thread imo

it doesn't matter who thinks which album is best or worst. there is a clear career trajectory that begins with his first album and progresses with each subsequent release. why recommend someone to start in the middle of a sentence?

How does this always happen

 

Telling someone to (basically) listen to ~7 albums worth of material is a lot. I personally think MBDTF is a good place to start because it's a good intro to modern Kanye. He doesn't sound anything like TCD anymore

 

MBDTF is where I started and Kanye is now one of my favourite artists

 

college dropout remains the best introduction to kanye because you glimpse his personality and actual life and then experience his reactions to himself and to his fame and life throughout his albums. imagine picking up the life of pablo and listening to "famous" or "i love kanye" without the context of knowing wtf he's talking about from TCD or MBDTF. or 808s without hearing "hey mama" first. or "bound 2" without "hell of a night." his discography is an ongoing narrative, picking up the thread in the middle is silly even if he doesnt sound like that anymore (which is debatable, since strands of all his albums continue to be present on every subsequent release) and its not like he sounds like MBDTF anymore either.
