I don't really like TBS. Young TBS was fine - first 3 albums were worth a couple listens. Late stage TBS is well below average.

That was the thing that got me into them, haha. Probably still my favourite thing by them. Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are both great albums though. "Fade to Black" is such a good song.

The reason they are and will always be, imo, the greatest metal band of all time is contained in that song. The moment you hear the acoustic guitar (impeccably recorded in a genre not known for great engineering at the time, btw) mixed higher than the guitar solo, it's clear they were something special.

It's probably my favourite song of theirs and things like that are why I like them so much. I think they did a lot of really interesting stuff on those early albums along with having just really good songwriting.

They just were so much more melodic than their peers. The ways they incorporated harmony musically I just love. I totally get down with Megadeth and Maiden and such, but they just weren't even going for that.

Like the tendency for Hetfield to be playing a power chord and Hammett to harmonize with that chord (as opposed to harmonized leads) took bands years to catch up to.

I think that's the main reason I enjoy them so much more than most other bands making similar stuff.

And they didn't sacrifice speed of heaviness to do it either. What they accomplished on those first 5 albums is just insane.

I like their later stuff too, but it's a whole other thing

I unironically enjoyed Lindsay Lohan's music career. Her songs Rumors and Over and Confessions of a Broken Heart hold up, I don't even care! Wish more of her music was on spotify

Megadeth's Rust In Peace is better than any Slayer/Megadeth/Metallica album.

Hahahahaha goddamn I just finished putting together a Spotify playlist of music I used to love and put Over on it. I used to be stupidly in love with her, it was embarrassing.

Battery is one hell of an album opener.

  22. Heard there was some Mac DeMarco hate like 15 pages back and that makes me sad. Then again, what is this thread for

I'm not sure I have many unpopular opinions, but here are some room temperature takes:
    - Slowdive > MBV
    - Warning is the best Green Day album
    - For Emma, Forever Ago is just okay
    - Turnover is overrated as fuck

Megadeth > Metallica > Slayer > Anthrax for me.

Thrash is really my thing tho

I didn't? Fuck, man! I read it and enjoyed it. You went deep, and it was an enjoyable read. I wish the record inspired the same awe in me that it does in you and so many other people. I just haven't had a listen to it yet where I really felt that "this is great" rush. But of course, I'll listen to their stuff in the future. They seem like the kind of band that could evolve into something I really love.

You can listen to Stay Gold now! Do it!
