No, you are wrong. Whether or not something is smart is up to the person viewing it.

No, I'm not wrong. Damn your username fits you. Look writing is something that can be measured outside of ones own personal enjoyment of it. Just because you don't like the writing doesn't mean it isn't smart. And vice versa.

Look I don't give a damn if someone likes Scott Pilgrim or doesn't like it. But the writing IS smart.

And honestly I'm kind of done with this whole conversation. I'd rather get back to looking forward to seeing this next week.

This is silly. The whole point of talking about movies, or any art form, is to see what people took from it. Some people might see Scott Pilgrim as smart and witty, some might see it as dumb. You can disagree with them, obviously, but this whole trend of "you are objectively wrong" is really bad for everyone.

The overusage of the word "take" to mean opinion on this site is starting to get really annoying

  5. The down with synonyms take on this website is quite :fire::fire:

I take it that you're of the opinion that saying "take" to mean opinion is not being taken too far on the site? Just my opinion.

    I do not exist.

Living in the UK, the only place I've seen/heard "hot take" is on this site. Not a phrase I'm familiar with!

I've only seen the trailers and because I didn't like almost everything about them, I'm not going to see it.

So why even come into this thread?

Why is everyone so caught over one person's opposing opinion? This is why it's so hard to foster discussion around here and why most threads just feel like an echo chamber of praise.

I mean I guess I don't really see the point in the discussion if you aren't even going to see the movie. It's one thing if you had seen it, didn't like it and came here to discuss why. But you haven't even seen it, so honestly how can you have a real opinion of it?

It isn't even out yet. The vast majority of people haven't seen it.

I'm only talking about the trailer.

  16. This is bewildering

  17. Why? It's a pretty commonly held aesthetic judgement philosophy taught and studied for a very long time. The difference between "quality" and "I dis/like it" is a common distinction.

It should also be said - the soundtrack is phenomenal.

I've only seen the trailer, but I'm disappointed in the lack of cars being driven by babies.

I'm disappointed that Adam Driver isn't in it, look I get it he drives in Paterson and Logan Lucky but he should drive in all of his movies

  21. Sure it's a philosophy that's been taught and studied. And I think it's mostly a load of hooey. Plus isn't criticism pretty important to aesthetics?

Has anyone mentioned yet that this is sitting at 100% on RT based on 32 reviews?

No, but keep in mind, those could be 32 middling reviews. For example, one of the top reviews states, "Baby Driver is certainly an entertaining ride but when you pop the good there's not much under it's shiny surface". Not trying to take anything away from the praise this movie is receiving, but an aggregate means almost nothing.

  24. God damn people are finding weird ways to criticize this.

I'm actually not trying to criticize this movie, I'm excited to see it and bummed I won't be able to watch until next week. I'm more criticizing RT. I dunno man, I manage a movie theatre and I don't really like how much clout Rotten Tomatoes has when it comes to whether or not people see a movie. I've seen people at the box office walk away from a movie they wanted to see cause the RT score wasn't high or I've seen people walk into movies that have very high RT scores and then walk out mid movie and ask for a refund because it wasn't what they expected. I guess my point is it offers no nuance.
