    This.

Made ZERO sense to me that he would say "Baby, you're the only one I trust to do a job more than once" and then have an entire group comprised of people he'd previously worked with.

I mean, I guess that works, but I feel like this is just a way to try to explain a dumb choice the filmmakers made. I love Edgar and I loved Baby Driver, but that scene was incongruent.

I always took it as he never uses the same 4 people together. Which is exactly what the movie shows us. We never see the same 4 do 2 jobs together.

It is a bit of a weird circumstance. There are two reasons not to use the same team.

    1. Prevent them from building relationships and acting irrationally, which is exactly what happened with the antagonism of Bats and Baby and the relationship between Don Draper and his wife/girlfriend.
    2. Keep them from building relationships and taking the money for themselves, which is possible considering that Doc threatened Baby and Baby had had positive interactions with Don Draper.

It is minor compared to the bigger problems of the movie, like building up two antagonists and then making this side character the bad guy at the end, or how Doc goes from threatening to kill Baby's family if he does not do a job to helping him escape after he got people killed and destroyed his operation. Wright planned these really fun chase scenes and then fumbled the story around them.

You're right. Those are the exact reasons to not use the same people, he then used the same people, and had those problems.

It didn't bother me as much while watching the film, but looking back on it, you're right about those other things too.

    Still makes no sense.

The whole point of that scene is Doc convincing Baby that he's the only one he's willing to work with more than once. He wouldn't say "I never use the same team twice" and then tell Baby that he's an exception, when every person working on the next job was someone he'd previously worked with.

I can't argue this too strongly, since it's been weeks and I can't remember the exact dialogue.

But the point was that he never used the same 4 people as a group more than once. Which matches what we see in the movie. We see some overlap, but we never see the same 4 people all do a job together twice.

The only person who did all of them was Baby. He never did a job with the same 3 people more than once. Baby is the exception because he is the constant member. Everyone else is swapped around and is never within the same group more than once.

Fair enough. I get what you're saying, I have no stake in arguing about it... just seemed weird to me.

It is a callback to Reservoir Dogs, but in both instances it is silly if you think about it too deeply. Just how many experienced, reliable bank robbers are there?

One last thing about that scene.

He originally does a job with Griff, Buddy, Darling and Baby. Then he says "I never work with the same crew twice" and does a job with the exact same crew (with the exception of Griff who was replaced by Bats) - Previously Griff says "if you don't see me again, it's probably because I'm dead." - Seems like Buddy (or someone else) probably killed Griff, which stands to reason that the only reason he's not back (and the crew's not 100% the same) is because he's dead and needed to be replaced.

Why would he make a point to not work with the same crew twice and then work with 3/4 of same crew the very next job? Defeats the whole purpose of not working with the same team twice.

I doubt that. There is no reason to think he killed the other guy on the second job, either.

Just read this somewhere and it made me think that possibly Buddy killed Griff...

"When Bats is in the gas station Darling said to Buddy "you know that guy you killed for me?" And Buddy goes "the one that called you a whore, the one that called you a bitch, or the one that looked at you funny?" And Darling goes "the last one" And then she tried to get Buddy to kill Bats for looking at her funny... well Griff was looking her up and down way more than Bats was so you could imagine that Buddy killed him and he was the last one he mentioned. Plus, when asked via twitter about him, Wright wrote "well, did you ever see him again?"

These were my favorite two movies of the summer, but I also have not seen Dunkirk or Spider-Man.

  19. Also good! Haha. I had a fun summer of movies.

I'm hoping this gets put on Netflix or Prime. Pretty sure Sony doesn't have anything on Netflix though, right?

  21. Overall, it's been a pretty good year quality-wise for movies, especially blockbusters/big movies. A lot of the duds (Pirates 5, Transformers 5, Mummy) performed poorly at the domestic BO but still did well overseas.
