Okay. But nothing of what I posted is my opinion. It’s the truth of what’s going on in relations with Hollywood backing up and maintaining China’s oppression of Tibetan people. What’s bad about bringing that to focus in this discussion when Marvel played a part in it? Is there anywhere else in this site in which someone is called the “worse” because they bring up what’s going on behind the scenes? Are we supposed to sit around and say we’re mad but remain blind on what’s causing the reason behind the decision?

I didn’t just randomly bring it up just to start a debate either. You said “why Tilda Swinton” and I thought that you sincerely wanted to know why.

 

"Why Tilda Swinton" was rhetorical, meant to explain why Doctor Strange is in a tier of its own below the bottom tier. The last thing I wanted to see was a defense--or as you call it, explanation--for that movie in the thread for this one.

 

I wasn’t defending the movie or decision at all and I have no idea why you and Tim are using that world. So yes, “defense” is the wrong word.

Perhaps Hollywood would stop bowing down to China whenever stuff like this happens if people are aware of it and point it out. But okay, you don’t want to know the political and oppressive history of what causes this and to possibly bring it to focus. I’ll remember that for the next time someone mentions this case.

I enjoyed the scenes in Scotland (my homeland!), and that Marty said Edinburgh correctly. Sorry, can't help calling that guy Marty as House of Lies was a great show.

I enjoyed the film, but 2 + hour movies for me are always a tough ask to get through.

It started off as me answering what I thought was a sincere question but then was anti-progressively shoved into an area of hush-hush we can’t speak about oppression in China. There wasn’t and is not a feeling of “need” on my part. Simply generosity to answer a question on a message board and the answer just so happened to be something you don’t want to be discussed.

I don’t care to argue about this anymore. I thought I was answering a question you had and the answer dealt with Tibetan/Chinese relations. Now that I know race relations can only be selectively brought up on this forum depending on the user, I’m ready to move on. Jeez.

Thread has definitely derailed. I remember on AP when we were able to have constructive opinions without bashing each other over completely unnecessary comments. Let's take the time to listen to what people have to say before we either take offense or put anyone down. When Scott Derrickson was confronted about the Ancient One issue, he patiently listened and was apologetic. He explained what led to the decision but made it abundantly clear that didn't change how wrong he was. He made no excuses. He learned and grew.

When Tilda Swinton was confronted, she spewed some vague garbage about her casting being a win for "feminism."

Listen to and amplify marginalized voices. Learn and grow. Be a Scott. Not a Tilda.
