It’s not comparable to sports because with sports there is an intense level of skill involved. Sports also has objective winners and losers

Whereas this kind of stuff is just a total crap shoot of marketing, it’s not really any sort of “competition.” What it’s way more comparable to is watching the stock market without actually having any money on the line yourself.

 

I feel like there are absolutely winners and losers. A film that tanks, for example, it's hard to call that winning.

And it's not like sports fans have anything on the line either.

 

It doesn't make sense to compare box office tracking to watching sports. Box office tracking is like tracking how much money the sports team made.

On some level we do have to be aware of the financial side of it because filmmakers and franchises are not going to last if they don't make enough money, but sometimes (not so much on this forum, but other places) it devolves into an idea that if film A makes more than film B, it is better somehow.

 

Will be seeing this again Friday with my dad as an early christmas gift. Ill report back if it seems longer or shorter on a rerun.

Also, this will slow burn its way to a huge box office still as people want to see it in the right format in the right seat. I imagine front row, side seats etc may just be empty as people go to the next showing to get their center seat.

Either way, even if it underperforms well get 3 at least in a year. After that we can judge if were being deprived of a 4th.

Am I the only one who likes the handicapped row? I would never take the seats if there were people that needed them but they are always empty and I love the guarantee of having no one near me.

 

I use this if there's ever only bad seats available.

 

finally saw this last night properly. extremely glad I walked out of my opening night screening that was accidentally projected in 2D

when they dive underwater for the first time, holy fuck. will be going back to see it again. lots of beautiful imagery in this, but looking for a bad ass moment like when Quaritch flips the knife in the mech suit from the first one.

 

Can humans eat Na'vi food or drink their water? Spider seems to spend a really long time out there.

I assumed the mask converted the air into breathable air or something like that.

What is the temperature on Pandora? Do we assume it is close to Earth? In the first one they mention lower gravity but it doesn't really seem to be shown off.

 

The thing is that James Cameron is so meticulous he probably does have answers to these questions.

 

It is exam week so right now I am watching the first hour of the first Avatar for the seventh time.

Honestly I think Cliff had the performance of the movie. He's so damn good

 

Rewatched Avatar last night to get reacquainted with Pandora before seeing Way of Water in 4DX tomorrow. If getting high at home to watch the original on our modest tv is an indication, I don't think I am prepared to get high and take on Way of Water tomorrow hahaha.

It is inartfully said, but obviously his meaning is in the right place. From the beginning of his career it has been pretty obvious.
