New song kicks hard and I like that their sound is constant. If it’s not broken don’t fix it.

in this genre you expect the instrumentals to get better though

esp if theyre absolutely just churning out albums

    Fight the long defeat.

They were excellent in Raleigh last week. No signs of slowing down since I last saw them in 2016 - if anything, they were even better. People seem to knock these guys for lack of innovation, but that's just another way to say consistency.

We reach for the longest shadow

This song is 8 minutes long? Just hit play, we'll see if it earns that runtime.

EDIT: 5 minutes in, not what I expected from a Spencer feature.

EDIT 2: Yeah that was fine. I didn't feel bored by it so I guess that's good.

something i think is interesting is how another band that always plays the same song like miss may i can fall off horrifically but abr is pretty consistently in the same career area if that makes sense.

  12. Some of it blends together and I'm not sold on all the clean vocal sections but this is probably the most I've enjoyed an album since Rescue & Restore. I haven't revisited their discography so I don't know how accurate I am but this is proggier than I remember them being in a while, which may explain why I like this more than I expected. The Cleansing, Revival, and the closer are highlights and the Gojira inspired riffing in Dark Divide caught my attention as well.

    damn, not a deadbolt cover.

i like this like i like all abr albums. it's sound and as advertised. you know exactly what you're getting, and it's pretty good at delivering that.

  16. It’s ABR - ABR rules so thusly this record rules

  17. I wish I could quantify what makes me like some ABR records and not others when they more or less all sound the same. This one is doing it for me for whatever reason lol. It’s a little riff salad in places — The Cleansing, 8 minutes, really? But Revival into Sevink into Dark Divide is some top shelf metalcore

Revival, Sevink, Dark Divide, and Deadbolt make for a pretty solid run.

Not sure if it tops Guardians just yet.

We reach for the longest shadow

ABR just decided to write a Gojira riff in Dark Divide and it honestly rules. I think this is a breath or fresh air for them. I like the mix, hearing the bass so prominently when things slow down is pretty nice.

confession, I’ve never listened to this band

until now. what the fuck this album is ridiculously good. they sound like darkest hour and the black dahlia murder had a progressive child. right up my alley. the first listen really floored me. the cleansing, ancestry, backfire, dark divide, deadbolt, and reckoning all had me head banging furiously

You owe it to yourself to give Constellations and Guardians a spin! Nearly all their albums are great but those are my favorites over the years.

    Messengers is solid.

This is one of the very few bands of the genre that's consistent.

Hard for me to say without nostalgia tinted glasses, but I think Constellations is their best, and holds up better than anything else.

my personal favorite is probably Messengers because that china cymbal blew my mind as a 16 year old.
