i had a very, very slow day at work so i ventured into this thread and have read the last 50 or so pages throughout the day.

That's what i'll be doing with mine as well, It'll pay off at least 1 card in full and then i'll use the leftover for my week of 1975 concerts with kaitie in April/May. Then i'll be rolling the monthly payment that i was paying on the card that'll be paid off on top of the monthly payment for my other card and should have that paid off in a few short months.

Do you use a budgeting app or spreadsheet? I use Mint and I love it and it helps a lot with their bill reminders and notifications for getting near or over your areas on your budget.

Also if you get a substantial amount back, you might want to look into increasing your withholdings on your paycheck so you get that money back every month instead of at the beginning of the following year.

serious thought: in a past life i had a job where i was kind of left to do things on my own with no input and it SUCKED. each day was a nightmare as i wondered what i would do to fill the time. as soon as i was gone i was so much happier. yeah, not having a job / income sucked, but mentality it was so freeing and the next job i went to was super awesome (still is, it's where i am now).

 

Totally unrelated to anything (mention of past life’s sprung the thought) but I just thought of how drastically my religious beliefs have changed in 2018. And since I’m at that age where you pretty much are solidifying your core beliefs for the rest of your life I have a lot of re-evaluating to do.

i started using Mint about a month ago when i got my iPhone. i like it and also kind of hate it. mostly i hate it because of the debt that i have, i don't like the app hounding me about it every day or two also, when one of my credit cards is due, it first tells me i have a bill of several hundred dollars, which while true, the minimum amount due is like $20 so every time i open the app and see "BILL OF $350 DUE IN SEVEN DAYS" i have a "holy shit!" moment until i remember.

i like that you can reassign things if charges get put in the wrong category. for example i get my haircut at a place called "The Mustard Seed". dumb name for a stylist and Mint agrees as it thinks it's a restaurant. one quick change and all future times it gets assigned properly. i like that i can change it.

another downside i have is it seems a bit late on things, like when my check gets deposited and when i've scheduled payments. i'll get an email / ping that says, "CHA-CHING! YOU'VE GOT MONEY!" and it's 2-3 days after i got paid so then i briefly think i got paid again or something.

i've also been using an Excel file i made for tracking purposes of each check. i figured out for each check of 2019 which bill(s) come out of each check and then minus that from what my check amount is (always the same each week) so then i know how much left over i have to spend on whatever, and hopefully some extra is left that i can throw towards the credit card debt.

 

I plan on using part of my tax refund to visit @dylan

Years of skepticism and a fairly decent understanding of modern physics and math has basically led me to a very rational yet inherently faith based philosophy. Most of it comes from a theoretical understanding of ways of knowing, combined with studying the esoterics of mythology and how all if it is a just a monomyth seeking to explain consciousness. I think it was Plank who said consciousness is the fundamental indivisible component of the universe and because of that science will never be able to probe it and I’m v much on board with that. It sucks cuz western society has so badly warped the original intention of science and I think that’s led to this over reliance on a mechanical view of the universe that more and more we’re seeing is incorrect.
