so, my real boss left the department last month, and her deputy director is now kinda the de facto director in her absence. i’ve been working here under a contract since March of last year, and my current contract runs until March of 2019. it’s been great but the benefits suck big time and i should be getting paid more.

the above-mentioned deputy director came over a little bit ago and asked me to make a list of all the things i do here that are outside of my job description. it’s a fucking big list. i sent him a draft of it and got paranoid thinking “fuck, now that my boss is gone and i was her assistant, he probably has to make a justification for keeping me on at all”. so i got paranoid and went and asked.

turns out he’s going to bat for me to try and get our budget department to sign off on paying me salary/benefits and bringing me on permanently. he told them he’s getting calls from other state agencies as a reference and that i’m looking for the door. they asked him to put together a justification for keeping me.

far from a certainty and odds are very good i take a position elsewhere in a different bureau before then, but i told him i’d come back in a heartbeat if they made a slot for me. odds aren’t great realistically because, ya know, money and government, but it feels great to know he’s going to bat for me without my pleading
