I don’t really discuss games on here at all. I don’t really care how they are used there.

  2. Otherwise people will expect spoiler tags forever, and not only is that not something most new (or even regular) users know how to do, which leads to big problems — it doesn’t make sense to make it something that needs to be done forever or someone to have to figure out date math. Instead it’s just known what to expect and there’s far less manual policing from mods to enforce.

Which you are free to do. I’ve never said someone isn’t allowed to do so.

That's not the problem. We understand the policy. We are saying it doesn't work as a blanket policy for all media because it's unrealistic.

I see your view on it, I'm just trying to clarify some other views.

Wow. That's an awfully self-centered way of viewing things. "It's convenient to me so fuck everyone else."

How is what I said “fuck everyone else”?

I am pretty sure it falls under the same policy Jason said above, but I don’t care because I don’t have an opinion on how gaming threads use spoil tags or not. I don’t participate in them. Why would I care what they do? It doesn’t impact me at all, of course I don’t care.

I understand why the policy is worded the way it is, but following it so stubbornly and strictly like @Greg wants to doesn't make sense for shows like Netflix where they drop a season all at once. It only kills conversation and traffic.

Almost every other Netflix show thread I participated in had no problem with being courteous and spoiler tagging shit so we can discuss episode to episode at our own pace but if that's not gona happen in here than I'm out and I'll see you later in the week after I finish it and discuss it in broad, blanketing ways

I'm glad to know how much you care about improving the community...

I'm baffled by inconsiderate people like you.

I’m baffled by people who can’t stop themselves from clicking on threads for something they haven’t seen. We are all baffled.

  10. Well, currently I don’t have the time, nor make the money from this site to account for the time it would take me, to police all the threads to make sure people use spoiler tags differently depending on media, so setting a hard date that people all know is coming is literally the only option I see as feasible and scalable.

I find that slightly amusing since Greg here is doing police work all on his own.

That wasn't a dig at you, Jason, by the way. I realized it might sound that way. Sorry.

  13. I didn’t read the entire argument but I just saw him remind people there will be spoilers after it’s out. The other arguing I just skimmed over cause basketball is on.

I don't blame you honestly. I mean, from your side, it's completely understandable and if you ever wanted to change things, I'd be willing to help out. I'm sure other people would be too. I'm just glad you're letting us have this discussion and not just throwing our opinions away.

I actually haven't been here that long. Who are the mods?

And sorry for totally derailing the Arrested Development thread haha.

  19. If anyone comes up with something that sounds scalable and doable, I'll definitely think about it. But anything that takes a lot of manual changing is going to be very hard to implement. Because people will screw up and end up posting spoilers for an episode of a Netflix show or a video game before the "designated time" and they'll be yelled at and an unpaid moderator(*) may not get to it for a while and then people are mad at me because they have expectations of a thread that's spoiler free until XYZ and they got spoiled. This is the only way I can think of that's scalable for basically a one person shop: That people know there's a chance they'll see a spoiler if they choose to read a thread about something that's already been released. It's a "buyer/user beware" scenario because we just don't have the person-power to do anything else. Adding spoiler tags via mobile is somewhat annoying as it is, and making any big changes to that will take dev time I don't have or make the money to really do right now (I want to make it so you can use just the letter S instead of the whole word in the tag) — but looking at ways to make that easier is something I'm also looking into because I'm fine with people doing it to be "courteous" (of course), but trying to enforce it is really difficult and I've seen what happens when we try and people mess up or don't know one thread has a different policy than another thread and it creates even more fights.

(*) And bringing in new/more moderators is a giant issue in its own right for so many reasons that it feels like a completely different topic, which, on a different day I'll be more than happy to discuss in detail.

It's also fucked that we just had 5+ pages of argument and attempted policy change just because one person can't do a simple thing in good faith and friendship for the good of the community.

"Can you just take an extra 4 footsteps on your way to work this morning so we can all have fun and enjoy the day together"

"NO THE POLICY SAYS I DON'T HAVE TO DO THAT SO I WON'T."
