Holy fuck I'm just skipping around and My Everything with the choir had me burst into tears

 

Man, watching highlights and she has improved insanely as an improviser. Hearing her vamp over the backing tracks on "Break Free" is fucking triumphant.

 

I still can't get past how she sings so much lower live, and just doesn't seem to hit all the best parts, just kinda takes me out of a lot of songs

 

(But seriously that performance was moving af.)

 

I have a couple theories about this. Since she recorded her first album around 18-19, it could just be her voice maturing. I started singing as a soprano when I was 16 and I'm easily an alto now at 22 so I'm sympathetic lol.

My other theory is she was trying to keep her emotions check. When I'm about to cry my voice drops like an entire octave and if the same thing happens to her, I could see her singing generally lower to stay on the safe side. No one wants their voice cracking in front of 50,000+ people.

I'm pretty sure she can still sing up into her whistle register, I've watched a couple of her other live performances and she's very capable.

 

Not to mention, she's on a full length tour and those notes are insanely strenuous. You have to preserve your voice
