They changed a few up when I saw them on Monday. But I think it's less a "bit"; more just that they have changed as artists now and the songs change with them. I don't think it's necessarily an issue, and they're definitely not the only band to do it.

saw them last night and it kicked all the ass.

  3. Running it back after I decided not to go to the outdoor Dublin show in June, and then they cancelled said outdoor Dublin show due to Alex coming down with laryngitis - I'm hoping to score Belfast tickets for October (in like six weeks, wtf)

Really hope their LA resale tickets drop. I really don’t understand how I saw them at a FESTIVAL (with tons of amazing acts!) in LA for less than half what these tickets are going for today, and that fest was only a year ago!

my only complaints about last night was they cut 'do me a favour' and no songs from SIAS for more AM. I like AM plenty but come on now

Went last night, they played over half of AM. Great show but with 4 additional musicians this feels more like the Alex Turner & Friends act vs an actual band.

I personally think it is hilarious and great that they keep becoming bigger even as they lose all interest in rocking out on record. I hope the next one is even slower and quieter ("do we get a third try?")

  9. I definitely feel like if you're a band of their stature and you need an additional Arctic Monkeys worth of band on stage to fully realise the songs (especially the newer stuff), you get them on stage.

They’ve had additional guys on stage for over a decade now

I think they're playing 60-70k soccer stadiums on this tour in Europe. To be fair, only 3-4 songs of the set are anything post-AM so it still works well

This along with the band playing a lot of their past material slowed down a tempo (was this the case at your show?) is why I have no interest in seeing them live for the last 8 years or so.

I’m sure they’re great but it’s just not what I want from an Arctic Monkeys show personally.

The early songs definitely do feel a tad slower. I would be hesitant to over-romanticize their earlier period TOO much though. I saw them in 2006 play a 3500-capacity venue and they were just not prepared for it. No production, awkward performance, etc. It wasn't until 2007 on the FWN tour that they kind of came into their own and that tour was super racous and fun. Around Humbug they likely started smoking more pot and moving beyond pub-rock thus why those earlier songs were approached in new ways.

I straight up dislike at least 75% of the debut, and they're now maybe my favorite working band playing to audiences of this size

Definitely agree that the band didn’t really come into their own live til FWN (a record I would rank above their debut) but man.. their debut is still top shelf to me. I love those songs as they are so hearing them re-imagined (to a degree) just isn’t of interest to me.

I think if I was able to connect with the last two records - I would be more open to it but aside from a few tracks? I totally avoid anything past AM.

i used to think it was overrated for a long time but outright disliking the debut is wild to me

I Want It All is the most overhated song in their discography. Tell me any other band brave enough to pull off a shoo wop in the 21st century

People hate I Want It All?? That’s madness. Track is killer and they indeed pull off a shoo wop quit well.

It never did much for me, personally. Maybe the only “dud” on AM. Perhaps the repetitive nature of the main riff which already feels a bit jarring from the get go (and a somewhat bland verse vocal), and feeling like it doesn’t go anywhere. The shoo-wop part and solo are fine though!

I’d have swapped it out for Stop The World. Insanely great song relegated to b-side status.

One other thing that I think people forget is that Arctic Monkeys weren't a full-on arena band in the US until after AM. Leading up to that they were still doing 3-5k theaters in most cities when they toured here which varied significantly from what their status was in the UK/Europe at the time.

It's weird because you ask me a year and a bit ago and I'm like 'I don't like what they're doing now and probably wouldn't go see them again'

And now here we are. I wonder if they're doing Hello You live yet?

They debuted it recently iirc. My fave on the album, there's so much going on compositionally.
