  1. Adding to the suggestions above, you'd like Future Palace and the 2017 album from We Came As Romans too.

This is still fun. I really hope they make it to the US.

I’ve listened to the new album and Holy Hell a few times this week. Enjoyed both. No real negative songs and a few moments to that stand out on each. However, as “listening while working so it’s kind of background noise” the albums tend to blur together so I don’t know specific songs yet but that will likely come with time.

A bit surprised how much Holy Hell sounds like FTTWTE as I was under the impression Exist was a bit of new territory for them but I could have very easily misread or misremembered that since I certainly wasn’t paying close attention to the band. Or maybe I interpreted Exist to be some major 180 from the band incorrectly.

Might throw on album #3 or 4 tonight just to see how different and far they have come.

I wonder if their placement will cause them some pause, if any, with where their music is headed. The negative reception to the new album has been clearly noticed by members.

honestly i don't see them changing course at all

Yeah, I don't see them changing. They've had fan backlash to albums throughout their career, even as far back as their change from 'Ruin' to 'Hollow Crown'.

They’re getting huge tours and they’re gonna go over REALLY well live. The new stuff slaps in a concert setting and they’re opening for Biffy Clyro, one of the biggest bands in Europe, in the next few months. I suspect they’ll have even more success with the new songs after that.

"living is killing us" was stuck in my head and then I realized I heard it somewhere before... so I put this together. I didn't change the tempo or anything, just put one track in each ear.

(Of course you can find examples of this from any artist, not criticizing them)

Animals has insane stream numbers and MV views, I wonder what would've happened if they released this as a single.

    1. Based on Instagram videos, the new stuff is going WAY over. Crowds going off, huge pits, band sounds tight, stage show is nuts.

    2. I am SO fucking jealous you get to see Biff on this run. Set list looks as good as anything since Only Revolutions with all the best new material in there. What I would GIVE for a US run of this bill.

This is one of my problems with the new stuff, there are a ton of repeating melodies and I don't know if it's intentional or not. I'll post examples when I recall them, but I've already heard 3 or 4 songs on the album that have next to exact melodies/inflections from previous songs of theirs.

My other problem is that I just don't like the music ha. I don't like the industrial metal sound, and the majority of the chorus's, lyrics etc. fail to compel. I gave the last album a fair chance and found it okay, but I for the most part, dislike this one. My spotify stats put them in my top 3 and it's close toss up between everyone up there on who my most listened to band is, so it's extremely disappointing that I dislike this new stuff so much. But, I don't think they're sell outs/incapable of making good music anymore, just going to have to accept and move on that it's not for me.

Compared to their peers that also make this kind of 'metalcore gone radio friendly' music, they're not even on par.

I'd have to wait on tickets to see them live and peep the setlist as if it was all recent stuff, I probably wouldn't go.

They definitely wrote the last two albums to take a big leap into stadiums.

    Well, mission accomplished.

Deciding to spend some time listening to this band after a handful of reasons why I should. I remember loving Follow the Water way back in 2010 when I first discovered this band and I casually enjoyed Hollow Crown. I don’t know why I never kept up with this band. I even saw them with letlive back in 2014 when they were touring in support of LF/LT. That album didn’t move the needle for me, but I also think I wasn’t that interested in this style of music at the time. Then I remember Loathe was supposed to open for these guys before that tour got cancelled. Also, Riley from Thrice always includes these guys in his posts about his favorite albums of the year so I’ve decided to finally give this band a proper shot.

Thanks for listening to me ramble. I am currently listening to Hollow Crown and this is cool. Should I go chronologically from here? I’ve skimmed through this thread and their Wikipedia page so I know that The Here and Now is a bit of a departure before they seemingly embark on another departure on their last couple albums. I was curious if anyone in here had any thoughts or recommendations.

I think if anything it’s very much worth listening to the run from Lost Forever to For Those That Wish To Exist.

Four albums in a row that just absolutely fuck

I like The Here & Now but I get why people fell out with it

Basically yes, I wouldn't skip anything imo. The Here And Now may be an outlier with its shift to a post-hardcore sound, but it still contains a couple heavy songs that are in line with Hollow Crown. Daybreaker was seen as a course correction because they brought back the math-y influences from Hollow Crown, albeit for one last time, but it also set the path for the more conventional djent direction they would take. It makes the most sense to me to continue chronologically.

  21. The only record that feels skippable in their discography after Hollow Crown is this one. Every other record is front-to-back bangers. I will say that the orchestral version of For Those Who Wish to Exist is vastly superior in my eyes, from an arrangement and production standpoint.

  22. I really like this one! Every song is catchy, I don’t mind that it’s not uber-technical or super heavy

Same! I've been coming back to it the past few weeks and really enjoying it. There are some great tracks on there. I get why it's not some people's cup of tea or whatever, but I think there are some really cool things they're doing. I'm becoming convinced that "New Moral Low Ground" might be one of my favorite songs they've ever done.
