That section of Unconditional II where Peter Gabriel, Regine, and Win are all singing together is so good

I mean. It’s not awful. So there’s that. I couldn’t make it through EN. End of Empire sounds so much like Imagine. Like I’m not even sure how it’s okay. I’m old and have kids so Lookout Kid is the highlight for me. My one buddy and I always go see them. Pretty much the only time we see each other. So I’m sure we will catch the Camden show. Not sure I’ll come back to this. Really only ever listen to Funeral and Suburbs on occasion.

I think this album is better than Reflektor but a 40 minute version of Reflektor is probably better than this.

just the sheer audacity of a band like arcade fire devoting a song to the notion of "unsubscribing" (I guess this is largely about news/media/politics but stay with me)

like, you got to where you are thanks to the internet mostly. you're now like the only rock band who can still sell records at target. musicians who don't play SNL would all basically fold if people actually disconnected in that way. it smacks of boomerism.

Maybe. But maybe that’s also the point? I mean bands were capable of getting big before the internet. nothing wrong with questioning the machine that exists now even if you positively benefited from it

  9. I mean the internet does suck lol

  10. I think it has more to do with twitter online media etc than actually using it to promote your music otherwise they wouldn’t have twitter lol

Funeral and Neon Bible were both pre social media, also their whole vibe has always been a bit indiscernible haha, still not sure what they were on about with Reflektor

I think this is what they are unsubscribing from.

I'm pretty lukewarm on this. It's nowhere near their first three, and I'd put it below Reflektor too. Probably on about the same level as Everything Now's better songs.

I do like the second half a lot better than the first.

  17. Drewski

    Maybe so, maybe not.

Top 5, no order, actively touring artists:

    Phish
    LCD Soundsystem
    Foals
    Arcade Fire
    My Morning Jacket

  18. This is the second time I've seen you give this list and both times I've thought "man I must have slept on Foals" given who else is on the list

Foals music does nothing for me on album but have seen them at festivals a few times and man they do go hard live

i really don’t care if the unsubscribe line “smacks of boomerism,” whatever that means (nothing) (honestly “a band can’t criticize the mechanisms by which their art is consumed if they’ve ever benefited from them” is nearly as stupid as any lyric on this record) it’s just clunky and stupid and offers no insight whatsoever into the shittiness of the internet dynamics they’re talking about. it’s also the final part of a fucking endless song that blows

age of anxiety 1 and the lightning 2 are dope. pretty much nothing else works

So the volume on Lightning 2 is so much lower than 1. Is that just an Amazon music issue of is that how it is supposed to be?
