It's funny that they worked with FJM for parts of this, because thematically its pretty identical to I Love You, Honeybear (The world sucks rn -> whatever, fuck the world -> Just going to love my wife/kids/family)

I was planning on buying tickets to both Philly and NY so my wife thanks them for saving us money.

  6. Everything Now is actually a really great record but also their worst in comparison with the rest of the discography

I don't think so? Everything Now at MSG tickets were going for half of face value.

Bummer it's Barclays this go around but I will be there. The Reflektor shows at Barclays were fun.

I think the difference is they have a lot less dates in the area this time. So consolidating all the sales into 1 show. I could be wrong tho!

Yeah I hear ya, that makes sense. I just think that they are significantly down (and trending downward, too?) in terms of their peak popularity. I don't think the pricing for Everything Now helped either. I think my lower bowl tickets (good seats) for the MSG show were ~$125. I looked on StubHub the day of and those same seats were going for like $50. Really annoying haha.

My new plan post-COVID (and personally post-new baby) is to not buy tickets until like the day before or day of a show...usually saves a ton financially and prevents me from buying tickets to shows that I will eventually end up not being able to go to due to child care issues haha

It's not really huge in the non-jam scene, but I highly recommend singing up for Cash or Trade dot org. Basically a secondary market ticket website where you need to sell tickets for face value or less. Most of the artists on there are jam related but I've also gotten half-price tickets to LCD Soundsystem, and other bands (like Arcade Fire) will pop up and there's not huge demand for them on the site so they're easy to get.

Found this to be pretty solid, outside of End of the Empire IV which is very bad! Interesting how all over the place reactions are. Seems like every single song on the album has somebpeople citing it as the best and other people citing it as the worst.

Put me down as AoA I, Lightning II, and Race and Religion being the standouts!

Win REALLY has lost some lyrical luster though. I didn’t find anything to be particularly objectionable (outside of the ‘I unsubscribe’ refrain) but there’s nothing on here that’s even remotely as astute as any of the tracks from Reflektor that covered similar themes.

This is really good. Musically it's up there with their best work (first 3 albums), however, the production does get a bit muddy with the more electronic parts. They sound really subdued in comparison to the rest of the instruments.
Lyrically, this does have some cringy moments, but to be honest all of their albums have had some cringy or "on the nose" type lyrics and songs. I just think it's more salient since Everything Now was a bit worse in that regard. The stronger lyrical moments (Lightning, Age of anxiety 1 &2, the closer and Unconditional 1) far outshine the weaker lyrical moments (Unconditional 2, Empire 4).

I haven't been this excited for this band's future output since they released Suburbs. Will be very interesting to see where they head next since they've basically combined all their previous sounds successfully here.

lyrics on this are so fucking bad

musically it has its moments. I don't think it's as much of a "return to form" as some people are saying (mostly because I think EN is fine).

    7/10 sounds about right

  25. Gave this another full listen today and enjoyed it slightly more. A few thoughts:
-the opener is pretty good, wasn’t sold before
-I think I’m coming around about Lookout Kid, although I still don’t think it’s the best song on here
-I still almost turned the album off the first time Win said “unsubscribe.” Doesn’t help that that track is also the least musically interesting one on here
-If they had chosen just about any other five syllables for the refrain in “Race and Religion” that would be such a good song but boy I just can’t deal

I really want to like this but I think this is where I’m gonna be at with it: a few great songs, a couple good ones, a couple bad ones and several ruined by Win’s lyrics. I know some other people really love this so I wont keep coming back to the thread to shit on y’alls parade I promise haha
