I think it's safe to assume that his DJWindows98 sets were heavily focused around this type of predatory behavior. And he was doing this at the same time his child was born? Abhorrent behavior under any circumstances.

That particular story about the young girl he groomed who later attempted suicide (which he then says made him “sad” because he considered her a friend) alongside him mentioning the girl having an Arcade Fire tattoo made me think of this from Creature Comfort:

Later in the song:

It is as he says in the same song, I suppose:

“I’m a liar. Don’t doubt my sincerity.”

 

i immediately thought about how gross this makes “creature comfort” as a song

 

The part where he’s like “it was a little weird that this fan I was able to take advantage of because she was a fan of my band, had a tattoo of my band!” makes it so clear what a piece of shit he is.

 

Has any other news outlet pick it up yet? I haven’t seen anyone else. Kind of weird Pitchfork also released it on a Saturday. Feel like it will be buried come Monday

 

Saturday is definitely a weird day to drop it. Unless every other outlet is waiting to run pieces until Monday and Pitchfork wanted some distance as the first big piece.

I feel for the backing band and any hired guns who are looking at a massive loss of income but the right thing to do here is to refuse to do the tour up until there’s no one left to play besides win and regine. wishful thinking that would happen I suppose.

 

this was always the most likely scenario unfortunately and, yeah, they have a large team of employees who still need to get paid despite their boss being a piece of shit

 

I guess part of me was hoping they would at least offer refunds to those who want them. For a band that like to parade themselves as very socially conscious, that would seem like the least they could do.

But again, wishful thinking from someone with no real knowledge of the business side of things.

 

i figured id have a refund due to cancellation by tomorrow at like latest, insane they're going to go on like nothing happened. tickets were expensive as shit for this too.

 

I’m still holding out hope it’ll be cancelled. No way this goes on (worst case - more than a few dates).

 

This have anything to do with why Will left the band?

 

Personally I think it goes on…I believe far more people care about seeing their favorite band than about the accusations that have been leveled…being on a major label gets you great PR and crisis management…I’d be surprised to see any cancellation…though am intrigued to see the reaction at the show tomorrow night

 

This is a “pitchfork band” though which would lead me to assume their fan base is more left leaning & therefore more likely to care about this type of behavior enough to not go. Could totally be wrong though

 

I was seeing a ton of people asking for refunds on Twitter yesterday. Mildly curious to see how it plays out but then at the same time fuck this band entirely so I dunno.

 

Yeah I hear that too…I guess my cynicism in the music industry is holding strong and it definitely is always a surprise when anyone follows anything but the money
