On this note - there is more to love about the Ultra 2 than I expected to find but it's hard for me to warrant spending the money when my S7 is only 2 years old, even if the battery life is massively suffering right now. I can't say an Apple Watch is something I want to continue wearing, either.

Have had my series 5 for 3.5 years, will probably upgrade to Series 10 or whatever this fall. Can't justify the Ultra

Weak. I’m still on a series 3 and there’s no end in sight #builtdifferent, GOATed, etc

 

My series 4 lasted all the way til this Ultra 1

 

damn that is very impressive. I'm a series 5 and can't wait to upgrade next month. I'm thinking of the ultra 3.

I went from a Series 1 (free), 2, 4, 6, and 7 before the Ultra 2. Think I’m good for a while. I don’t see how they improve enough to justify an upgrade till 2026.

Plus if the new band connector rumors are true, I’m holding onto this one as long as possible to enjoy my bands before they’re unusable.

 

Isn’t this year supposed to be the fabled Watch X redesign, similar to the iPhone?

 

I think iOS 18 is making me psychotic with layout and theming.

 

Also please for the love of god, make the dock size to the number of icons like Mac. That seems like low hanging fruit.

How do people do the custom icons? Is it just a shortcut?

 

I second the question on where you got those icons? I always wanted to do custom icons for the home screen but I remember when that was first an option - you had to utilize shortcuts and thus couldn't get badge notifications over the icon. Is that still true with iOS 18?

 

Still true, and the biggest downside. I need a solution for text notification badges, otherwise I don’t like notification badges anyways. Also no app icon shortcuts via Haptic Touch or whatever they call it now. There are designers that sell icon packs, and the one I’m using is inspired by Vision Pro.

 

Just a shortcut to open an app. It’s as fast to open as the normal icon itself with a few quirks: No notification badges, no Haptic Touch shortcuts on the app icons, and you get a little notification that the shortcut ran in Dynamic Island anytime you open an app.

 

Got it. I doubt they ever allow notification badges and long press touches via shortcuts, but it would be awesome if they did. There's maybe 3-4 apps that I actually have notifications turned on. Everything else is off. I don't know how anyone could have notifications turned on - especially for social media apps.

My nephew gets notifications for every single thing that happens in all of his apps. When I look at his phone I almost get sick. lol So many badges everywhere it's truly insane.

Damn, really? So no expected redesign? That will be a shame if so as the only temptation to upgrade will be battery life

I’m intrigued by a potential 49mm regular Apple Watch. I like the Ultra a lot but if I could get into more traditional looking watch that’s as large, much lighter, and with similar battery life, I’d do it.
