Did iPhones really not support Atmos until recently? Or are people using spatial audio and Atmos interchangeably in here?

Atmos has been available on devices, this new update is Apple Music specific.

 

I’m still trying to learn even more about how it works.

 

Feeling a bit left out of all this lossless/spatial audio stuff since I basically only listen to lofi shoegaze and bedroom pop these days

 

Yeah I don't think Blaze Foley's team is going to be putting out spatial audio stuff.

 

I need Aaron Marsh to remix some Copeland stuff for spatial audio.

 

Does Buddy Holly have an error in the Dolby mix at 1:10? The drums kinda just drop out for a measure or two!

 

Not sure if it's an error, but it is very jarring.

 

I wish you didn’t have to turn on lossless audio for EVERYTHING in AM. I wish it gave you the option to download lossless or normal quality when downloading a specific song or album. I understand the majority of AM users might be confused by that though.

 

seems very hit or miss to me as to if sounds good or not. Buddy Holly sounds fucking dreadful

The Weeknd clip with Zane is good, but would like easy A/B testing to really hear the difference without him talking over it

Fall Out Boy is horrid. The volume levels are all over the place.

If this is the future of music, then its going to take time for artists to get on board. It certainly seems more care has gone into some records than others, or maybe there were just better produced to begin with

I’m there too on the mediocrity of What’s My Age Again. Sounded like a almost finished demo track is the best way I can describe it. Only other Atmos song I’ve listened has been Gojira’s New Found, and the volume seemed up and down.

 

The only really good pop-punk one I’ve heard so far is “Ocean Avenue.”

I think so far the mixing technique words much better with other genres.

 

Do we know what's happening here? Are labels supplying new mixes/masters? Or is Apple applying some sort of preset and calling it a day?

 

It's a specific mix.

 

Shared in another thread, but this one of my favorites so far. You can hear the instruments basically coming from where they should in the concert hall. It's really cool.

I liked what I heard of Abby Road last night too.

 

I asked Ryan who did the mixing for "Ocean Avenue" to see if I could find out where/how some songs were getting these mixes pushed out, and he had no idea.

So if anyone does find out, I would love to know. Because I feel like that's almost going to become an art into itself.

 

Besides Ocean Ave I actually haven’t found that many things I really prefer in Dolby so far. To be honest I don’t really understand what I’m hearing besides there being waaaaay more reverb, but I’m definitely interested to read more once details start coming out.
