I explained why earlier in this thread. I don't like the UI, especially the font, and I do most of my podcast listening at my iMac while I work. A desktop app with the ability to pause as needed with the function key is important to me. I know I could hack a Fluid app to make this work with Overcast but I try to avoid doing that stuff now because I like it when my stuff just works.

It added a bunch of old episodes to my unplayed playlist today.

That might be an issue with the feed from the podcasts itself. Haven't had that issue yet.

That's what I've been assuming but I just checked Overcast and it doesn't include those episodes. Doesn't mean it's not the feed but it just means that it's a lot harder to figure out.

  5. Seems to me that the 9.7 is intended to be used out and about while the 12.9 is meant for desktop work. It's the story Apple is trying to sell for their devices. It's not unusual for them to incorporate technical differences to suggest the intended end-use.

    9.7 - portable work.
    12.9 - serious tablet computing.

There's another podcast with old episodes showing up in iTunes. I'm thinking I need to switch to Overcast for a week and see how it goes. I've lost track how many times I've tried it.

  7. Use it for a week and I think you'll love it. I mean, a font is an odd thing to get tripped up on for an audio app. Are you really looking at it that often that it bothers you?

I've tried it so many times. I'm not sure I will.

I'm looking at the font every time I interact with it so yes, it matters. Ignoring UI/UX regardless of what the app is for is foolish.

Does anyone have Google Fiber or another fiber service and know how well the Time capsule handles that?

Also, I'm looking into it because I want to move my iTunes library to the time capsule so I can keep my library off my rMBP's small 256gig harddrive, does anyone else run their iTunes library like this and recommend for or against it?

  10. Interesting that a perfectly readable font is giving you so much displeasure. Overcast has been widely praised for good UI/UX. I've never heard anyone even mention the font used in the app before.

I've seen a fair amount of complaints once San Francisco became the system font.

  12. So, you'd prefer Overcast use the system font? I think Concourse is a perfectly pleasing font to read, and certainly not an indication of poor UI/UX. Surely if the Apple podcast app is giving you the terrible experience you say you're having, a well-designed podcasting application like Overcast would be a step up from the first-party experience—font be damned.

EDIT: I just remembered Overcast doesn't even use Concourse in Dark Mode, so is it San Fransisco you don't like?

I'll give it another shot but it doesn't fit into my lifestyle. And yes, I would prefer San Francisco over Concourse but it's not worth paying for.

  14. From the desktop listening experience, I can see why Overcast might not be the best option for you. Not being able to play/pause with a native keystroke can be a pain. As far as the SF/Concourse debate goes, I don't see how a font could be a deal breaker for an application that serves you audio files, even if you're staring at show notes for long periods of time—which I'm assuming you're not since you're working while you listen.

does any one else have the problem of their iphone and not being able to delete the "(saved)" messages?

If you are talking about the amount showing up in storage, it's most likely the photos in each message thread in your messages.

I have the larger iPad Pro and realized something today, I pay for Office 365 because my screen is larger than 10 inches but with the new iPad Pro 9.7 it's free because the screen is smaller than 10 inches. Definitely took a little bit of wind out of my sails...

This is a nice reminder that I need to clear some caches or delete Twitter and Facebook.

I still don't understand that. But I just signed up for the $9.99 a month plan because I always use it.

How is that even a thing? Should be a flat cost, or free, across all devices.

It's really a matter of size preference and price. Performance wise, they are equal I believe. Like I said yesterday, for the price, the 9.7 is the best value we've ever seen in an iPad.

I should also add, the SE could be the best value an iPhone has ever seen, imo. This is more debatable though, considering the screen size difference.
