Theatre mode appears to not be what most of us probably thought it was.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/9to5mac.com/2017/01/24/theater-mode-watchos-3-2/amp/?client=safari

Introduced in watchOS 3.1.3, Theater Mode lets users quickly mute the sound on their Apple Watch and avoid waking the screen on wrist raise. Users still receive notifications (including haptics) while in Theater Mode, which they can view by tapping the screen or pressing the Digital Crown.

I for one, thought it would be the long-anticipated 'dark mode' but nah.

If Apple put a theater mode in the middle of my Control Center for an Apple Watch I don't have, that won't be cool.

  7. Theatre mode is part of WatchOS 3.2, don't see why it would show up without a watch on iPhone.

    (It's also a good addition.)

Do or do not, there is no try.

Is anybody else still jumping between Apple Music and Spotify? Both have flaws that annoy me in equal measures.

I've gone as far as listing pros and cons of each and still find myself switching between both.

Apple Music does this really irritating thing where if I pause a track when I get to work, the Music app will have forgotten where I was in said track and put it back to the start within the hour and in a lot of cases, forget the track entirely. Anybody else notice that?

Adding a pre-release album also never backfills as it is released for me in Apple Music.

Then you have Spotify and it's really terrible local files where AM lets me add all albums that it's missing and all my loved B-Sides.

AM has lyrics - which I love.

Is it just me? Or is anybody else on the same boat?

  10. I only really tried the free version of Spotify and didn't like it. I didn't like the interface OR having two separate apps for my music. I love how Apple Music is one app for all of my music. But there are some things I don't like that are kind of minor, such as not showing the track length of a song before I start it and such. But other than a few minor things, Apple Music is the way to go, for me, especially because of having all of my music integrated into one app.

I haven't noticed the problem that you talked about, but sometimes Apple Music doesn't let me play a song, or it'll go halfway through a track then skip it, and it continues to do that unless I delete the song then re download it, which is super annoying but rare lately.

Yeah, the ability to have all my own music alongside my streaming service is a big factor pushing me towards just using AM.

Only thing I don't like in Apple Music is that if you have icloud music on (needed to enable saving apple music songs to the phone rather than stream every time) you can't add your actual music files to the phone via itunes. Creates a lot of settings diving to turn icloud off and on whenever I'm heavily listening to something on AM.

  15. Can't you just hit update iCloud library and they show up on your phone? That's what I do with my advances

    Yes you can.

  17. Yep. You can right click individual albums to do it as well. Don't have to do any settings changes. Not sure what that post is saying, but ... you can definitely add your actual music files to your phone via iTunes. I do it all the time.

  18. Yeah I usually just dump like 5 albums at once and then click on update library under the iTunes tab

Buying an apple watch today with little clue what to do with it haha any starter tips from anyone?

Ummm, not sure what kind of starter tips you're looking for but my advice is just be patient with it. Both myself and my brother were initially kind of disappointed by the features, but after like a week we both agreed that even though it's fairly limited in what it can do, there's just something about it that we love.

Honestly I love it just for the notifications, the fitness stuff (like reminding me to stand up at work every hour and walk around), and a few other small things (I bought Carrot weather and it tells me when it's about to start raining/snowing or when there's a winter advisory). I don't have many tips other than to just play around with it a bunch and don't immediately dismiss it if you don't love it right away because odds are it will grow on you.

  22. I've been wanting to get an apple watch for a while but didn't know if I would use it enough. This seems like stuff I would love on it though

Apple Music on Mac has had a few annoying bugs for me recently... mostly in the Browse section. The iOS app, as usual, has been nearly flawless... if I didn't use Browse so much in iTunes I would have very little to complain about.

This seems like it should be an easy task, but I'm not finding much. I'd like to set a keyboard shortcut to open Safari on my Mac. Use case - if I'm on my desktop with nothing open (i.e. when I open my laptop), so technically Finder is what's 'open' in the toolbar menu, I'd like to be able to type something like CONTROL S and open Safari. Anyone know how to accomplish this? I played around with keyboard shortcuts to no avail. Thanks!

You can do it with something like Alfred (which I like more than Spotlight) by creating a simple workflow, it's dead simple. You can also do it really easily using Keyboard Maestro (which is a great app for shortcuts and automation and the like as well).

The other way, if you don't wanna use any new third party apps, is to use Automator (already on your Mac) and create a new "Service" that just opens Safari. It's pretty straight forward, it should be something like: New > Service. Set the top to "no input" in "any application," drag "Launch Application" over. Set it to Safari. Save. Double click wherever you saved it to install it. Then open system preferences, click keyboard, click shortcuts, click services, scroll down to the bottom where it says "general" and you'll see your new service. Click to the right of it to set the shortcut you want.)

(I use both Alfred and Keyboard Maestro for a bunch of automation stuff on my end, and can recommend both.)
