7/10. The visuals and the absolutely terrifying points of this movie were insane. Worth the viewing. Although after sitting on it for a few hours, i think the lack of character development and character motivation and small scope of the whole enterprise hurt the film for me.

I definitely say this is a good movie though.

I didn't think they did a good job of explaining the characters motivations to go into a suicide mission. And I feel like the affair subplot didn't particularly go anywhere or add anything

My take on the affair... By the middle of the mission, she realized her infidelity (assuming she believed her husband was dead) was creating a lot of guilt for her and she had to redeem herself by surviving the mission and find out how to save her husband not knowing he was a clone yet

  9. Ya I thought the affair subplot explained her motivations, or at the very least was a major factor in her decision to go.

I have a question about the end: Her husband is pretty obviously a mirror/clone, but I could have sworn she ended up killing hers (and not herself). The thing with the eyes at the very end made me doubt that a little bit, though. Is that just due to the genetic stuff that happened to her while she was in the shimmer?

It's purposely ambiguous, but I interpreted it as she was still changed by the Shimmer even though she's the original Lena

I thought they were implying the affair began before Kane left.

  14. I think this was already posted in the thread, but I’d recommend reading this. It helped me make sense of the ambiguity a little bit.

I thought her affair was the reason Kane went on expedition 11.

  17. I'm cloudy on the timeline of events, but that sounds plausible.^

Kane went because of the affair. Lena realizes this after the fact and the guilt compels her to go on her expedition.

I thought that because the psychologist while explaining why people went said “marital infidelity” and gave her a look that seemed to say “I know what you did.”

This is how I believe it went down. This played into my thoughts at the end of the movie when I felt like the mirror being pressing her against the door was literally her guilt weighing her down.

Trippy movie. Loved the visuals, a great homage to 2001. I would be lying if I said that I understand the plot after just one viewing.

Definitely thought of 2001 during the scene beneath the lighthouse

The affair also serves to play up the fact she lies, she’s an unreliable character, can’t be trusted, etc.

Did anyone else notice that the Kane that blew himself up was speaking with a southern accent? Am I wrong? That's why I think it's possible that one was the clone. But either way, no one leaves the shimmer the same person.

I did too, but then someone mentioned to me they heard hints of it earlier in the movie. Maybe he just did a poor job with the accent? Definitely thought the same thing, though.
