Currently falling further and further down the anime rabbit hole after having danced around it for a long time. I'm in the middle of Dorohedoro right now and I'll be damned if it's not everything I could have asked it to be with that premise.

Also just finished Devilman Crybaby and fuck, that show got me a few times.

Oh man, I'll have to check out both of those. I've also gone down the rabbit hole. I finished a couple I had been meaning to go back to like Darwin's Game which was okay and something else I can't remember the name of right now, but I also watched King's Game which is truly terrible. Never ever watch it. I'm catching up on Fire Force right now and watching Jujutsu Kaisen and Akudama Drive which are both pretty decent. Kaisen is the standout for right now.

Is it really only 16 episodes? That doesn't seem like enough.

Devilman Crybaby lived up to its name and turned me into a crybaby is all I can say. Like, fuck, what a hard hitting show.

Someone I know hates it because it's too hard right and anti-Semitic and nationalist.

I have no idea, I haven't seen it.

I watched Your Name last night and I think it might be one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen.

One of my favourite films ever. Was so inspiring and beautiful. I even listened to that soundtrack for weeks!

I have a feeling that, on repeat viewings, it has potential to be up there in the top 5 or 10. The feelings it makes you feel are...something else.

Yeah its the only anime film my girlfriend watched, and even more than once. We watched A Silent Voice which was pretty good and want to watch Weathering With You but don't think its quite on par with your name yet.

ive actually read a lot of counters to that take, it all stems from a polygon article that a lot of people have accussed of completely misunderstanding the author's intentions and story. some even argue that the series is anti-authoritarianism. i have not read to far into the series, but i have seen alot of pushback against that claim.

yeah I'm not really sure how that conclusion was drawn and don't really feel like reading the article. definitely feels like an anti-authoritarian series to me.

  16. There's so much anime I've meant to watch, but I decided to start Baki on Netflix for some reason. It's ridiculous but entertaining.

Has that been officially confirmed? I'd heard 16 also but I have no idea how they can do it. From talking to manga readers there's still a LOT of stuff to cover so 16 is weird.

I hope they do this season justice. The 2 episodes have been great so far but if there's only 14 episodes left, I dunno.

Finished Dorohedoro. Season ending was a bit of a letdown and I hope there's a greenlit season two soon but if not I guess I have to read the manga. Can't remember the last time I enjoyed just... Existing in the setting of a show with the characters this much though. The show's aesthetic reminds me a lot of Borderlands, weirdly.

  20. I didn't watch much anime in 2020, but what I do recall watching (Eizouken, Haikyu and Children of the Sea) were all really solid.

I'm here for Yuru Camp season 2 in January. Cozy camping life is exactly what 2021 needs. And later in the year we'll get Eva 4.0, which should be something...

I just looked up the polygon article and it is a pretty comical misreading of the series. It seems to imply that the series using historical parallels is the series *embracing* those parallels. And then there are just fundamentally incorrect descriptions like these:

The mindless titans don’t eat humans for fun, they eat them because they know on an animal-instinct level that eating a Titan shifter is the only way to cure them. And the “...large noses” line seems to imply they are anti-Semitic, but if all the other features are also grotesque and exaggerated, how is that pointed towards Jews? The Eldians being treated like Jews under the Nazis is an obvious historical parallel, and the series is clearly on the side of the Eldians lol. They are an unjustly oppressed people.

The Survey Corps is one branch of the military, and literally the entire rest of the military and government are constantly treated like incompetent fools. And all the members of the Survey Corps are constantly doubtful of their own actions because they know one wrong move could get everyone killed. It makes you wonder if the person writing this has ever actually read/watched it lol

There’s more but I won’t break down the whole thing. I think people initially got weirded out when the big twist came and the series drew an obvious parallel between the Eldians and the Jews, and the Eldians are capable of turning into horrific monsters, so they thought it was implying that the Eldians (Jews) *were* secret monsters. But the Eldians are forcibly turned into monsters by their oppressors! They are victims! It’s not complicated! Lol

I bet they’re doing the same thing they did last season, which was split it up into two. From the manga there would be a pretty clear point for them to stop this first half and start up a second
