I'm kind of intrigued but it's really, really hard to get excited for a live action anime adaption.

 

and on an "anime I'm watching" note, been going into My Hero Academia a bit. I've read a fair bit of the manga, probably at least a fair bit into the second season, so it's nothing surprising but it's still a very fun watch - the world does work a lot better in motion and color. Good stuff, gonna use this as an excuse to catch back up on the manga eventually too.

 

As a die-hard Makoto Shinkai fan for half a decade now, I am not particularly fond of this idea. The animation and, most importantly the soundtrack, are part of his films and they all ride off of each other.

Unless Radwimps will still be doing the soundtrack then it won’t feel like it’s an adaptation of Makoto Shinkai’s work.

 

stopping by to recommend the houseki no kuni (land of the lustrous) anime that recently premiered. it's based on a beautifully drawn manga that's got a bunch of sort of magical girls and great action scenes with a relaxing backdrop. the anime does use cgi which works pretty well most of the time and it makes sense why they went with it, there are a few moments where it doesn't look that great and creeps into uncanny valley territory but it's never as bad as say berserk. anyways there's only one episode out so far and i highly recommend you all give it a shot.

I enjoyed the first episode. Tomoyo Kurosawa is great as Phos. There was some awkward exposition, but the manga wasn't much better on that front. CGI was a mixed bag, but visuals are solid overall. Great soundtrack. This exchange was really nice (it cut to the heart of the show):

"Cinnabar is extremely bright and gifted, but because their touch brings ruin, we have no way of handling it. So we have forced Cinnabar out into the night." [to do a make-work job]

"Is that all we can do?"

"Rigorous, meaningful work is the best medicine against questioning one's place in the world."

 

This season so far:

Land of the Lustrous - 2/12 - Enjoying. It's thus far been a close adaptation of the manga, which works for me.
Children of the Whales - 2/12 - A worse version of From the New World, but it only has to be half as good to be worth watching.
The Ancient Magus' Bride - 2/24 - Not bad, but I don't find the story, characters, or universe particularly interesting. The comedy is awkward. Dropped.
Kino's Journey - 2/? - It looks a lot better than the original, but I didn't find either of the first two stories/parable interesting. Dropped.
Just Because! -1/12 - Something something childhood friends, something something mysterious transfer student. Dropped.

 

im only watching houseki no kuni from this season, i am rewatching drrr also.

i should finish from the new world, i saw like half of it and never finished it, my brother constantly raves about it too.

the duelist kingdom arc of yugioh is so full of rule breaking and bullshit, it's pretty funny.

also unpopular opinion: yugioh gx>yugioh

this season:
Inuyashiki and Juuni Taisen are both very, very good. Easy recs. They're both pretty short (11 and 12 eps) too, so check them out. Both are also pretty brutal/violent, however, so if that's not something you're into, avoid them.

 

I’m actually interested in tryna cop the pill teee but sad at how underwhelming the collection is.

I randomly started on an anime binge recently due to an accidental youtube rabbit hole

I recently finished Eva and just started Yu Yu Hakasho

This might have my favorite english dub of all time?

(I've never seen Cowboy Bebop which I know is the de facto for best dub)

 

Dayum. My buddy just texted me and asked if I cared that the limited edition Amazon Cowboy Bebop Blu-ray set was back and I told him that I care but I’m broke so I won’t be getting it and he said he’d just buy it for me and I can pay him back when I can. Feeling #blessed lol

 

I want your friends

 

Dude I was honestly so surprised. We haven’t seen each other since I moved away and it’s friggen mailing to my school and will be here tomorrow. I love the dude, but sometimes it’s hard for me to gauge with friendships if the level of care is mutual, but this solidified him as a true homie.

 

I’m a loner who is used because I have a cool car so I never expect my friends to do cool shit for me :(

 

Damn. I’ve been the taxi before and it is no bueno. More just because I had a car though, not necessarily a cool one heh

 

I mean cool because it’s new and everyone ether doesn’t have a car or a super old car so they rather drive with me.

 

My bluray copy of Your Name apparently shipped today. Totally forgot I preordered that haha.
