    so much for them! Prestigious

both are great because they both do a good job at adapting tremendous source material but 2011 is definitely more complete since it adapts about 95% of the series while the original only covers the first couple of arcs, it's also more streamlined because it doesn't have any filler episodes which the original does.

i know this is an anime thread and not manga BUT..... im on the 2nd to last volume of Monster, and I am blown away. Urasawa is a genius. Between Pluto, Billy Bat and this, I have no reservation in saying he is quite possibly my favourite story teller outside of Grant Morrison. Everyone needs to experience his work.

I was asked to make a list of my favourite manga the other day and I realised that I have two tiers - Urasawa tier and then the everything else tier

His work is a gift to us all and now I'm going to have to go and reread all of it again ffs also apparently Pluto is getting an anime adaptation and I am beyond hyped

I picked it randomly while browsing Netflix and have since found out that it is incredibly critically acclaimed, haha. I really like it. Also, I like anime in theory but I have a low tolerance for certain "anime nonsense" (no shost at anyone here) and there is very little of that in this show.

so for like majority of my life I only ever read american comics, then one day I picked up Pluto. I then went on to re-read Pluto once a year for like 5 years before I ended up picking up any other manga. The quality of Pluto was so high I couldn't bother reading other manga lol. It is nothing short of a master piece. The day I heard about the anime adaptation I exploded with excitement.

I just hope Billy Bat gets released in america, cause after reading the fan translations, It really could be his best work to date.

I have a hard time describing it, but the way Urasawa introduces new characters but seemingly injecting short stories into the middle of a volume, then eventually ties it into the main story is just masterful. I always think back to the introduction of North No. 2 in Pluto, and how that story of a robot trying to learn piano stands up by it self as a short story while also giving extra context/setting up whats coming up.

Urasawa is a genius. Never got around to Billy Bat (keep meaning to) but Pluto, Monster, Master Keaton, 20CB were all obsessions at one point or another.

I've only started reading manga this year after falling in love with Berserk but it's pretty much all I've been doing recently. It is very fun.

As for anime I haven't watched much recently but I watched Perfect Blue for the first time like two days ago and now it's one of my favourite films.

oh man, that's unfortunate, haha. I really want to read more of it but I think I'm going to wait until I finish Monster and then I'll get around to Pluto after 20CB.

  17. I haven't read anything by Urasawa yet, but I will Soon (TM). I'm pretty sure my local library has all or most of his work. I have seen (and loved) the anime adaptation of Monster.

Speaking of manga, My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness is much better than its title. See my <200 word review here.

Pluto is approx 70ish chapters while 20CB is about 200. Both are just way too good but I'd recommend reading Pluto first, just because of the fact that it's shorter while being a ridiculously good ride.

If anything wants any/has any manga recs hmu btw I've read a hell of a lot lol and I'm always looking for more

if you are fine reading online fan translations, check out Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou if you already haven't. There is an serenity to the art work/story telling that is breath taking. Its the type of story that will make you appreciate the small things in life.

I actually started reading this a short while ago then got really into something else which I can't remember now and forgot about it, I'll get back on it, just on my 3rd or 4th re-read of HxH so I'll do it after that

Probably bad asking me because I'm always gonna say manga when it comes to long series hah. I started watching the HxH anime but it was too slow paced for me at the start and took out a lot of the more brutal moments that come earlier on in the series, I heard it loses the censorship later on though
