My feelings are mixed as well. Some of the concepts I loved, some of the characters/stories were fascinating, some were incredibly hard to swallow....I went through a love/hate relationship with Yuno, and Yukiteru was the most unsatisfying, irritating MC ever. Minene was the most fascinating character, I wish it was all about her tbh.

I honestly am a huge anime fan, but weirdly I just started watching Hunter x Hunter. :D

This was shared with me on three separate occasions last week! Wondering if anyone else here has seen it...

Haha, I'll have to check that out! I appreciate the 'documentary' quality to it!

Reminds me of this far less appropriate bit right here...

after listening to Fightstar and talking with @SpyKi I'm re-visitng Evangelion. Fuck I love this show, I love the designs and the universe and I love that the heroes arent these perfect anime stereotypes of "if i yell louder ill power up and save everyone!" but theyre legitimately damaged and feel like real characters. Shinji might seem kind of "whimpy" to some but I love him so much and I love how he grows.

The real draw is, of course, the mechs and the battles. The evas are just really cool and the angels are a neat enemy to fight, very lovecraftian. shows just a blast but it also has a lot of depth to it.

Finally watched End of Eva last night, hoping to start Rebuild this weekend.

If I'm being honest, I relate to Shinji on a level that - frankly - terrifies me.

Probably finishing (catching up with?) Mob Psycho 100 next week. Does anyone have any suggestions for pre-work breakfast shows? Preferably on Crunchyroll or Netflix

Alright, chugged Eva 1.11 & 2.22 last night and 3.33 this morning. Really dug 2, kinda disappointed in 3, not getting my hopes up for 4 (er, 3+1).

All of that said, in a series with its' fair share of freaky imagery... why is that stretchy-face drawing of Rei always the scariest fucking thing?!

  12. I liked the Attack on Titan finale. This season felt like it dragged out a mystery that seemed obvious to viewers, but I guess there's still more to it that they'll eventually explain. Glad we're getting S3 next year.

3.33 is my favorite entry to Evangelion following EOE. Was this the first time you'd seen 3.33? I've found its improved through subsequent viewings.

On a side note, I finished Lupin III: A Woman Named Fujiko Mine" recently. Highly recommend it to fans of Bebop and Champloo.

  14. Eva 3.0 was easily my favorite of the Rebuilds.

Why is that? Most people seem to dislike it. For me it captured the magic of watching Evangelion for the first time again.

  16. That's partly it. It's the first Rebuild that really strays from the series. Also, I just think it's more focused on character.

Don't have the energy to single out spoilers, just gonna do the whole block.

Yes, it was my first time watching it. Watched all of Eva for the first time this past month. I know the stuff bears revisiting, but I'm moving in like a month and watching like ten other shows, so that's sorta on the back burner for now.

But in defense of my current feelings: just to be clear, I by no means think 3.33 is bad. In fact, this review summarizes my feelings on the whole thing quite succinctly. All the expanding on the Sinji/Kaworu relationship is excellent. And I appreciate how even with as far afield as this story is from the original, you can still see the framework of Ep. 24 and End of Eva affecting it. But from a story perspective, it's really shoddily constructed and kills a lot of the narrative momentum from the last movie.

Mari is a cool character but still gets no development this time around. Many of the narrative threads from the last movie (and suggested in the teaser) have been dropped completely, which suggests just how messy it was behind the scenes on this project. But really, the first 40 minutes are the biggest problem. We spend nearly half of the movie setting up characters, scenarios, and a fight scene that end up not having much of an effect at all on the other half of the movie. I get that keeping Shinji in the dark for so long on what's happening means we also experience his confusion, but it stalls out and gets frustrating when they take from that for a 20 min info dump/fight scene, and then it turns out that Shinji isn't around these new relationship dynamics long enough for them to actually go anywhere interesting before he's whisked away to feels like the actual movie part of the movie.

Again, plenty of good stuff here. And I am excited to see the final installment (whenever it comes out.) But at this point, I'm not expecting anything resembling a satisfying payoff.

I liked the last two episodes a lot but overall I was pretty disappointed in season 2 compared to season 1. Glad season 3 is coming next year though.
