I've been rewatching s1 of JJK and while it's always been great, it's wild how much better s2 is.

And a lot of people got frustrated by what will be s3, but I think in retrospect it's fantastic, between all the new characters, the further complexities of how jujutsu sorcery works, and the most major twists. There's so much about the world of the series that anime-onlys don't understand yet. I often forget that even something like what it actually means to be "special grade" was only revealed relatively recently.

One part of the series that can make it very confusing at first, but which made me grow to love it, is how we don't really learn about how the powers or cursed energy works in a "linear" fashion. It's not like we start at step 1, then 2, and so on like Naruto or whatever. Instead Gojo and Sukuna show off the complete peak of their powers within about 5 episodes, before we even understand what exactly they're doing (like Sukuna's use of Malevolent Shrine being his domain expansion) or that it's things only they can do (like Gojo looking at Yuji and being able to tell that he swallowed Sukuna's finger -- something he can only do because of his Six Eyes). You basically just assume that everyone *could* hypothetically reach that level eventually, since that's usually how power-scaling works.

Even when shown examples of just how crazy powerful Gojo is, we don't actually learn *why* he's that strong (or that it's to the point of functionally being invincible, far beyond whaty literally everyone else could hope to achieve) until the Hidden Inventory arc. And then so much of the rest of the series is being like "okay now that you understand what makes the strongest the strongest, it's time to delve into all the crevices of everyone else in the middle and how messy it is."

  2. Just finished the Mugen Train Arc, it was really good but not great. I think I like the Mount Natagumo arc just a tiiiny bit more, and that's saying something because I fucking hate spiders. Rengoku is cool and all but Enmu's and Akaza's abilities were just so boring compared to Rui & fam. Well anyway, I guess this would've been cool to see in theaters, fans must've been hype for it

My biggest complaint with Demon Slayer is there are so many cool characters, but seasons 2 and 3 were so short. They don’t give you time for you to get to know the characters and I’m not really invested in them. It could greatly benefit from 24 episodes/season like My Hero and JJK.

There just isn’t enough material for that unfortunately. They would have to do a bunch of filler if that was the case

Season 2 was my favourite part so far and I feel like the length was perfect.

It’s kinda crazy that the current big 3 (MHA, JJK, and Demon Slayer) don’t really have much left to go. All 3 could realistically be over in 2 years. 3 at the most I guess.

  7. I love that most of the humor comes from Zenitsu and Inosuke--and now Uzui--being really fucking dumb haha

    I just finished Monster. Here’s a write up I did in a Facebook group I’m in…

    IMG_5990.jpeg

Today I finished… Monster by Naoki Urasawa. It wasn’t until i just took this picture that I realized the covers were puzzle pieces! This series is about Kenzo Tenma, one of the best young surgeons in Germany. One day, he chooses to save a boy with a gunshot wound over someone the head of the hospital ordered him to, becausese the boy arrived first. His decision might cost not only his future, but also the future of humanity…
I honestly think this is a masterpiece. These nine books have two books in one and are the completed series. Johan has been called the best villain in anime/manga and I can see why. Urasawa writes his stories in a cinematic way, always with careful panel compositions, different time periods, and character development. If you save someone and they commit evil acts, did you create the monster? I’m not going to give anymore away. I even recommend it for people not fans of anime. It’s not a Shonen, so you won’t find big action sequences or battles, young boy protagonists, or “power of friendship”. Its a suspenseful mystery with lots of grey area with the characters, philosophical questioning, and mature elements. Read this now.

    Play the Yakuza series

Finished watching Pluto yesterday, that was a great adaptation right there. Only 8 one hour episodes and they were all bangers

This is an interesting prospect, if it's done like say, FA:B or Kai style where it's condensed and omits filler. Otherwise I don't see the point.

Heh, maybe this will be the thing that finally gets me to start watching.

I was thinking the same thing, Pen. I never even got to the 100 episode mark with the OG because it’s just so daunting. But it’s just crazy they’re doing this when the original still has no end in sight.

Can’t wait to be 50 years old and the original anime is on episode 2000 and the remake is on episode 1000

Sorry for the triple post. I missed this news a couple weeks ago. WIT studio is also taking over for S4 of Ascendance of a Bookworm

Hot take: the live action series adapted One Piece in condensed way that took out filler and was pretty faithful to the manga. Is the remake just going to be an animated version of that?

The only details they gave is that they’re adapting the manga from the beginning
