It's funny because as much as I LOVE the original Yu Yu Hakusho it does start off pretty slow.

I'm trying to think of a show that just immediately sells me on it and I think Laid Back Camp may be one of them. Right from the jump it feels cozy.

Yeah I can totally understand being turned off by the school festival arc even if I didn’t personally have an issue with it. I could be wrong with the timing but I believe the 2nd half of S4 was affected by the 2nd movie too.

MVA is definitely where they dropped the ball though. They never should’ve changed up the chronology of the arcs to accommodate the 3rd movie. While I still think its quality is way overblown and I don’t think they fumbled it as much of the fandom acts, it’s definitely where I’d say the quality dipped the most. I mostly asked to see if you’d mention the first half S5. I see that one complained about just as much by the same people that will say there’s not enough academia in the story and I simply don’t get it. I enjoyed the hell out of that arc when reading and watching.

As for the latest season, my problem with the end of the season is on Horikoshi’s shoulders because I think he rushed that arc and it should’ve been fleshed out, which might be sort of happening with the 4th movie timeline wise? My only complaints with S6, which I thought was an overall improvement over S5, would be the way they handled some of the reveals in the first half of the season. They kinda just gave away shit that should’ve been cooler moments for non-manga readers

That's exactly how I feel and yes, now I totally remember about the 2nd movie as well! You could just tell how sloppy things were.

I'm usually all for those let's rally behind the main character moments, but the way they handled Deku coming back to the school for protection and Uraraka's part in that really took me out of it. You're right, it definitely felt too rushed.

I definitely feel for the studios that make anime, especially ones this big that have to deal with honoring what the fans want, doing their own thing, making quality art and writing, respecting the source material, dealing with staff changes, dealing with crunch and shitty working conditions, making multiple movies, and then trying to make sure all of that are presented in nice neat little packages to the consumers. It's insane anime this big even gets done right at all.

I'll definitely be watching the rest, but my enthusiasm/enjoyment of the show has dwindled over the years.

The early(ish) points in a series where you should get to before deciding whether to give up on it or not:

Black Clover — Yami vs. Licht
JJK — Gojo vs Jogo (or maybe Yuji/Todo vs. Hanami?)
MHA — All Might vs. Nomu
Fire Force - Shinra vs. Sho
    AOT - Armored/Colossal Titans revealed

Yeah I’ll just warn you that the pacing is very divisive starting from where the show left off. It’s still one of my favorite series, and I once again think the fandom is blowing the quality out of proportion, but the pacing and his rush to finish the series has definitely affected the story beats. I feel like this last act will be looked at more fondly when it’s not a weekly (sort of) release and people can just consume it or sit with the whole thing though. Or when the anime adapts it obviously. I do think the consensus right now is that Horikoshi has been on absolute fire the last few months though.

Also I highly recommend everyone read the MHA manga. No one’s perfect but his art is just insane most of the time imo, especially the last few chapters. If he doesn’t take a well deserved break after this and eventually come back with a horror manga, I will be so fucking bummed.

This has nothing to do with the topic, but Black Clover is so much fun and really enjoyable if you can make it to where Asta stops being annoying. Granted that’s a decent chunk of episodes to get through, but I’m glad I stuck with it. Show is a lot better than people give it credit for.

Black Clover is one of the worst to ever do it in terms of completely one-dimensional, dull characters. The parts where the art/animation hit is the only thing that really makes it worth it

Definitely not going to disagree with anything you said, but I’ve watched worse shit and in the end it’s an entertaining and fun watch. I skipped all the filler episodes though, so I’m not exactly fully committed to the show I guess.

  9. if we're going fights I guess Rock Lee vs. Gaara and Ichigo vs. Byakuya

(and I hate to bring up RK because of its mangaka but Kenshin vs. Saito)

I haven't seen Black Clover so I have no horse in this race, however the barometer I use for bad anime is so askew compared to most people because the trash I've seen isn't really comparable to the Trash I've seen. The really, really, really bad anime I've watch is so unforgivable I wouldn't suggest it to my worst enemies.

I actually did stop shortly after this fight. Lol Only because I got caught up watching other stuff and just haven’t gotten back to it yet.

There's anime I've watched and enjoyed that I couldn't even begin to recommend or even explain to another person without sounding like a complete lunatic and/or a pervert.

Granted, most people probably think that anyway, but I don't want to encourage that opinion.

I don't think I could come up with my worst anime ever because I've shut off that section of my brain and purged it

Yeah I don’t think I’m in that kind of territory. Lol The worst thing I watch and enjoy is probably Boruto. This is another case where I skip anything that isn’t canon to the manga. I think it’s fun and I just like being in that world with those characters again. I even ended up reading the manga, which is also not good. The new manga that started a few months ago has been pretty awesome so far though.

Oh yeah, you're so far off from truly bad stuff haha

I'm talking about stuff that legitimately shouldn't have been made.

To be fair, I’m mostly a dub watcher so that shit doesn’t really slip through the cracks

Damn I’m 3/3 for starting new anime this week. I’m a few episodes into Frieren now and this show is wonderful. I was not expecting to get choked up in the very first episode. This one is special.

Frieren is anime of the year, it rules so hard. and in todays JJK the Idol/Strong guy team up scene was incredible

It really might be. I loved the other two shows I watched but this is on another level. I know it has a fraction of the ratings but pretty crazy it took the #1 spot on MAL.

Regarding JJK though, I’m behind since I watch dubbed, but that’s one of my favorite moments of the manga. I can’t wait to see it animated

The moment I am Mick is referring to is actually a completely new scene that's not in the manga -- in the manga, Todo's locket with pictures of Yuji and Takada falls down, distracting Mahito for a split second and letting Todo clap his own hand with Mahito's to use Boogie Woogie. In the anime, right after the locket falls but before the clap, there is a new extended scene of Todo imagining himself and Takada tag-teaming against Mahito

Oh nice that sounds like a nice addition. I don’t even remember the locket part honestly. I just love the team up
