now this is more like a crowd that's going to an AVA concert, not to see Tom Delonge. very cool participation on songs that have become, in their own way, classics. lots more videos popping up from yesterday's show.

the new Appleseed Cast album sounds a lot like "Angels & Airwaves do post-rock" at many points during the album. That's all I got for ya today

Show last night was awesome! They sounded so good, the crowd seemed to be singing and dancing along the whole time too. Just a great experience all around. (Except for the fact that the merch table gave me an X-Large shirt, when I wanted large, oh well)

Rebel Girl and Kiss and Tell sound huge live

Yeah I find myself very excited watching that. I’ll shit on him like 95% of days ... but then 5% of days I love it.

Just rediscovered Saturday Love. Fun song. Would like to see them add it to the setlist. It seems like they opened with it for a while.

Really cool to come in to this thread and see such high praise for their past work and the new songs. I was worried because every blink/Tom Delonge news story on this site is typically destroyed by negativity towards Tom.

Yesterday I was cruising home and I put on Kiss & Tell and halfway through, I just instinctively jacked up the volume. I used to absolutely adore AVA. Their first 3 albums are soundtracks to very specific moments in my life (all positive looking back) so it's weird to be surprised by really digging new stuff again. Kind of like The Dangerous Summer did with me earlier this year.

I would also put a vote in to Diary being top tier AVA song.

^I was gonna say... it seems like AVA has been the brunt of a lot of jokes in the broader scene for as long as I can remember... funny that it seems like the general opinion is kinda shifting suddenly.

Idk why, I mean, it’s the same band... like part of me is kinda like “hello everyone, welcome to 2006”. Tom has always written good songs, whether it was in Blink or not...

Anyways... anyone going to the show tomorrow? lol

I was very, very into AVA from 2006-2010 but everything after that got to be frustrating, and Tom from like 2009-2013 was insufferable on the blink side. His second post blink hiatus has also been very forgettable from me because he's hardly done anything of interest to me and all his other projects and companies come off more to me as a rip off scheme than "cool." I love UFO's and aliens and all that as much as the next person, but not if it requires me investing my money for probably nothing.

However, these shows actually seem good. He's not trying to sell some message, some product, some movie, etc. He is just up there playing music and seemingly having a good time and I'm falling into the hype. This is what I loved about him for the entire growing up and teenage years. This moment seems good, but I cannot forget how he has become nearly an insufferable meme trying to take my money for the better part of the last decade.

In the Start The Machine Documentary David Kennedy talks about how the generation that was teenagers during the WDNTW era didn't have bands like the Clash and U2 and they wanted to be that for kids. I think the people that connected with those albums still feel that. This new tour/album rollout feels like the most intentional return to those ideas from the band in a while.

I think the time away for Tom and from Tom did some good. Yeah, he’s been doing this shady investment stuff and ufo shit since his time away from music started, but he just belongs doing the music thing.

I was also super into AVA 2006-2009 or whenever love part 1 dropped. After that I lost interest until
Dream Walker. Then the disappearance from music happened. Now that he/they are back and I’m a little older, I’m digging the sound even more now these days.

is rubano playing fingerstyle or using a pick on these songs? i know he has a jazz background and has jokingly talked shit about players who use a pick so im curious if he had to adapt to matt walchters style and join the dark side or if hes just winging it with how he normally plays. cant really tell from the live videos ive seen. either way, it sounds good and i hope he sticks around with the band after this tour.

Yeah, try being a kid in middle school on punkdisasters that was a fan of Angels & Airwaves.

The mods on that website allowed certain users to gain my login information and mess with my account because I frequented the AVA forum.

    True story, I was 13.

To add to that, they hacked my modlife account.

Not a fun time. But the past is the past, I'm 26 now. Rather hilarious in retrospect.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

can't speak for anyone else but it took about a week to completely shift my sympathies and excitement from blink to AVA. of course that was the week we found out blink were happy to work with and enable abusers just to make some extra money they don't need, and not even have the guts to address their fans about it any way, shape or form. then a couple of days later, a terrific AVA single comes out and we start seeing videos where Tom sounds as good as he ever has and just looks like he's having a great time up onstage (and seriously every time he goes into "There Is", I start tearing up - can't even help it).

so yeah, where I'm at is basically fuck blink and all my hype for Nine pretty much instantly dissipated. meanwhile I'm really keen to see where more AVA music is gonna go and if they capitalise on the momentum for this tour. my two cents.
