Yeah I agree. I do think we've likely seen the last of Kino, but I don't think we're meant to infer that a bunch of others didn't make it.

 

I partly see where you're coming from as a general point, but here's where I disagree. Personally, I was enjoying all the Disney+ live action shows at least somewhat despite their flaws (Mandalorian the most, and the other two less, but still liked more than disliked both). However, to me this show is so clearly in a different league of writing, directing, acting, and overall storytelling that can actually hold its own with the very best of modern television content being produced for ANY series... that I can't help but look back on the other series a bit less favorably by comparison. And I don't think that's a bad thing. This show has just clearly set the bar much higher than it was previously, and I hope it leads to more content of this quality in Star Wars going forward.

 

I'm not in the camp that wants to put down the other shows but I think it's obvious andor is of higher quality than at least boba Fett and obi wan and you can certainly argue it's of higher quality than mandalorian.

If Disney had the ability to put this show together, then I wonder why boba Fett and obi wan fell so flat. I get different show runners and what not but it doesn't make sense to me. And now we have andor, every show after has no reason to not be as high of quality.

I really think the different showrunners is a BIG part of it. I think Gilroy really emphasized taking the nostalgia goggles for Star Wars off, and making something that stands on its own without feeling the need to cram in constant references and an almost-religious reverence for what came before.

To be clear, those also aren't the only flaws with the other shows. But I really do think a lot of their flaws stem from treating Star Wars as more of a "franchise" with strict limitations, rather than a universe where any storytelling decision is possible and achievable.

 

I've only watched the first four episodes so far, but this is really good. It puts Obi Wan and Boba Fett to shame.

 

I think there's room for this show and the more fun shows like Mando. In fact, I don't want every SW show to be like this, I'll still want the more fun, action-adventure-style shows too. But I think Andor has made it clear that SW needs to shed its dependence on the familiar and those other shows just don't do that.

 

There's definitely room for both and they are doing different things. But the quality shouldn't vary so widely. Mando is fun and it's good and it's doing something entirely different than andor. Boba Fett isn't fun or good and obi wan is great to see ewan again but it's mediocre at its best.

 

Andor has a ton of familiarity though. It's the compelling story and great characters that set it apart.

 

Sure, but I guess what I meant is that it’s not as beholden to the familiar as other projects. It’s not trying to be Star Wars so much as it’s a good story set within Star Wars.

I really didn't think Obi-Wan was a bad show tbh. Granted, I'm a big prequel apologist but I genuinely like what it added to the lore for the most part. I'd never put it at the same level as this show or Mando but I thought it was a solid like B-

Boba Fett did not need to be made though, although the last few episodes with Mando make it worthwhile imo

 

Given the timeline put out before the show for S2 I doubt we get either Vader or Palps, but I’d say K2SO is guaranteed and the Ghost crew is likely.

 

I liked ObiWan, but it’s nowhere near the quality of Andor. This is a masterpiece so far.

 

I'll be honest, I forgot I even watched Obi-Wan until I was recounting all of the shows that have taken place on Tatooine. It wasn’t bad but I was noticing myself not giving it my full attention for whatever reason.

 

So this is only 2 seasons long?

i believe the original plan was 5 but none of them was willing to commit a whole decade of their lives to this so unfortunately 2 it is. if it's 2 seasons of absolute heat like it has been so far then I'm at peace with it

 

This is kind of where I’m at. I enjoyed it overall, but it hasn’t stuck with me at all.
