The real dream is seeing Matty Mullins sing it one day.

I was listening to the recent EPs and was thinking about the band's future. I'm going to predict that with the Matty switch that we might see a more mainstream version of the band again, at least at first. I wouldn't be surprised if the first recorded material is some of the most catchy and poppy that we have heard since the early years, as a way to try and get people excited for what's to come. Rather than the more experimental sounds of the last two EPs. I could be wrong, but just my guess at this point....

on a related note, here's a sneak peek at what Matty sounds like singing NTFP.

I really hope they aren’t going to release Matty versions of songs.

in all seriousness, i'm not 100% sure if this is for me yet, but he doesn't sound terrible. if they're featuring him and Stephen on new music, i'm wondering how their voices will work together.

  10. I'm fine with his voice but considering it's so different from Stephen's, the cover band vibe is going to remain strong from now on

Yeah, it certainly doesn't sound bad, but it's very different.

I could see Matty playing off Stephen well if they did more of a dual vocalist approach like on Lacerate with Christian, but I'm still in the boat that I don't think I'd enjoy Matty being the only vocalist on songs. Like, I think Matty sounds technically good in the NTFP clip, but it still sounds very off because of how different it is from what Stephen does.

I agree. Like if this was the first time I was hearing this song, I don't believe I'd think anything of it. But being so used to Stephen's vocals there, it's a bit jarring on first listen.

Eh I don’t like it at all. He just has a generic metalcore voice to me.

He sounds a lot better than I expected! No Stephen, but who is?

I mainly engage through the recordings now so as long as we still have Stephen there, I'm all set.

I won't be surprised at all if "LP8" is just the two EPs and 2 new songs. One with Stephen and Matty singing and the other with all or mostly Matty.

I think it's "good enough" for live, but I wouldn't want to listen to this iteration of Anberlin recorded, if that makes sense.

Yeah that sounds like a professional studio clip. I wonder if they’ll do a “greatest hits” with Matty singing to generate hype for him touring with them?

I am genuinely curious how well something like that would be received outside of little niche communities like this. I know Memphis Mayfire is pretty popular despite how I personally feel about their music, so there's a timeline where that could actually sell really well.

I don’t understand the point of this. Maybe most people won’t care but to me I wouldn’t want to go see one of my favorite bands with another person singing lead vocals. Like, if you’re going to change singers entirely that’s one thing and that’s been done before, but I don’t think I really get what they’re trying to do here.
