I agree that this is ridiculous. It is sad people think this way. Of course a few years ago no one saw this coming and yeah I could live without another American Football album, but am I gonna say "no" to a new album? Hell no. They've obviously proven with their live performances and this new song that they have it in them, which is even more impressive since Holmes and Lamos both hadn't played in a band since The Geese, which didn't last long anyways.

I'm really hoping for some sick instrumentals on this LP. Lamos is an extremely underrated drummer. I love how he uses jazz influences in his playing.

So now the emo revival includes literally reviving emo bands.

Really liking the song, and this will be a perfect Oct album I'm sure.

my friend called this band "the rolling stones for nerds that are ten years older than us" as a way of dumping on this and he likes them ha.

 

There's this song they were playing live that I am wondering if it's on the album. I didn't recognize it, but it could be one of those songs they had on the deluxe. The 7s, maybe. But I hope it's on here because it was such a good song

 

Listening to LP1 right now. Something about Mikes vocals in a lot of places in LP1, is they're pretty layered at times, and also not as much in the forefront as the vocals in the new song.
I don't prefer one way or the other, in terms of mixing and stuff. These just may be factors coming into play with people saying it sounds like Owen, because there are no mixed vocals tracks being layered in this new song.
Also, I think there are a couple songs on LP1 where Mike was really close to the max of his vocal range, but you don't hear that as much with him anymore, probably because he is a better singer now, or he is better at writing melodies that fit his vocal range.
And of course, obviously, he is 17 years older.

 

AOTY, this year is nuts and this makes it even better!

 

I think the bold part makes a difference. I think before he used to just come up with vocal melodies based on the music alone, but I think I read somewhere that he writes the vocal melody on guitar now, at least for Owen, and so that probably accounts for that. There are some early Owen songs (I think it might be I Do Perceive or the ep, maybe the album before I Do Perceive) that have him reaching for the max of his vocal range as well, and the albums after I Do Perceive are tended to be seen as a "jump" in quality (At Home With Owen specifically) so that's probably where it happened.
