not bad, but lp1 songs are obviously what most people are there to hear

 

Right, okay. There also hasn't been that decade+ long familiarity, but this bodes well for them if people weren't bored, I'd still like to hear them take another crack at it after all.

 

new songs sounded absolutely massive. Evan Weiss was on guitar and doing backup vocals, that was a nice surprise.

 

I take it back, I want a T/T/T album more than LP3

yeah, one of the best shows I've been to for sure

I also really liked the lighting

but seriously, their playing is so fucking tight and their sound crystal clear - really fucking impressive

dude killing the trumpet too

They absolutely incredible. I thought that was Evan on stage but I wasn't sure, really awesome to find out it was.

Kinda bummed me out that a lot of people around me were talking during the quieter parts of the new songs but it didn't ruin my time. It's crazy how much better they've gotten as a group since seeing them play their first show back in NYC 2(?) years ago. I'll never miss an opportunity to see this band play

 

same haha - I was like "hmm isn't that Evan? naah"

he's a natural fit to them tbh - a lot of people hated on Intersections but I feel it's the only album that actually built on LP1's sound and gave it a unique twist as opposed to just aping it (poorly)

 

It's funny how much these guys influence one another. "Old Lace and Ivory" off Standards sounds like it could've been written by Mike Kinsella. I have no problem with this.

 

Old Lace & Ivory is such an underrated IIOI song, I definitely see the Mike / Owen influence too.

 

Ten years ago, I bet if you told Evan Weiss that he would be playing guitar with American Football on tour, he would have laughed in your face.

 

yeah, they sounded very good live even though i think the new record still isn't very good. at the very least the live show made me at least somewhat appreciate those songs

 

Makes me wanna catch them live again I wanna feel more about LP2 than I do

 

That NYC set looks incredible. Extra jealous of y'all who got to see Evan on guitar with them. I'm still bitter that Bear vs. Shark had to play Chicago the same weekend as their release show.
