It's way too late, or much too early Prestigious

For all the musicians in here that might be interested,
I got bored this morning and figured out the tuning to the new song. It is Eb Ab Eb Ab Bb Eb. I'm basically 100% positive on that. I was messing around with the opening riff and I think I got that mostly figured out. I recorded a super short clip of what I have figured out. Please excuse the terrible quality, I recorded this on my phone and I figured I would just give a quick idea for people who would be interested.

This is the truth. Best Owen album. I Got High is the best song Kinsella has ever written as Owen... BOOM.

It's not like the new song isn't doing interesting things with the rhythm. And it's not like American Football's lyrics were originally the unique factor of the band compared to the instrumentation. As far as I can tell they're really just picking up where they left off. Who cares if there's a verse and a chorus or whatever if it still generally has the same unique rhythms and gorgeous layers of sparkly guitars.

This isn't rocket science. How can I be missing out when I've listened to Owen and then decided that I don't really like to listen to Owen.

That's like saying I'm missing out on World of Warcraft when I've actually played World of Warcraft and decided I don't like its game mechanics. Why continue to play it if I don't like it?

That was a cool read. It's interesting how most of his placements have to do with how he sees the person he was vs who he is today, which makes sense given how open and introspective each album is

I tend to agree, it's hard to pick just one track by him but every single note and dynamic and guitar flourish in I Got High is just perfectly placed. A lot of the other tracks on L'ami du Peuple grew on me over time too, Bad Blood is a fantastic song.

Sorry to hijack this thread everybody. I suppose I feel the same about American Football as that other dude does about Owen. Although I am very interested to hear new American Football all the same after 17 years.

    This.

I think it was Pitchfork who said that the lyrics were more of an elaboration than the final word. The instrumentation is the real star of American Football. Although I'd say this song really points to a more symbiotic relationship between vocals and the instrumentation, in the vein of Never Meant. If this album finds that middle ground for all of the tracks, it could be something really special.

Yeah, drums are unbelievable. Love when the bridge kicks in with those staccato notes set against the vibraphone that takes you out.
