yeah i know a bunch of people that have that take, i think that record is definitely their most consistent and their most interesting. i'd probably put future hearts at 2 though. SWIR doesn't really do anything that interesting but i have a lot of connection to those old songs. nothing personal fell off a ton from what i thought of it 8 years ago hahaha

Or maybe they are going to drop another album to cut the last cycle short because it didn't do gangbusters sales over time??

Idk it seems to me like the albums done pretty well. Definitely has a lot of fan support and Good Times has done pretty well for itself. You don’t play deep cuts off your new album at a festival slot if that album hasn’t been a success for you. If anything they’re trying to build momentum. I could see a single release soon with a fall release for the album, super similar to the Don’t Panic cycle.

SWIR is the one that doesn’t hold up as well for me, though I still like it. I still think NP is pretty much just jam after jam

NP has some really horrible stuff. SWIR is more just bland and non diverse than bad

I think the only bad track on NP is Hello Brooklyn. I know people don't like Too Much, but I like it.

hello brooklyn is very very bad too. i don't like therapy very much, i think lost in stereo is very overrated, stella is mediocre

I’m only lukewarm on Sick Little Games and Therapy. I like Too Much and Stella has always been me of my favorites

My hottest of takes is that Weightless is overrated.

Weightless is awesome. I actually like Too Much lol. I actually prefer a lot of the more mid-tempo stuff from them.

The problem I have with this band is that while the hooks are huge, I hate them lyrically.

It should have gone on Dirty Work. I think it would have been a perfect replacement for Time Bomb, which is one of their few songs that I flat out dislike.

They’re absolutely not a lyrics focused band, but I can almost always dig their lyrics for what they are. Same with pretty much every band in this genre

Yeah, I 100% would never listen to this band for insightful or intelligent lyrics. I just want the lyrics to be about having fun or give me nostalgia. That said, there are some songs where the lyrics are bad enough to ruin the songs for me, it's hit and miss, but that's like an awful lot of these pop bands tbf. They're about normal for the style of music.

I think Alex’s lyrics are underrated. They’re not always great but he strikes gold frequently enough.

They've never had a song I couldn't listen to because of lyrics, that actually rarely happens to me at all, I just am not often bothered by lyrics most people would call bad or cheesy.

There are some lines on the new Mayday Parade that get close though

  25. The song leaked but I’m in class. How is it?
