how is that pretentious? i literally said that it just takes a lot to impress me these days but i never doubted they are good tight bands hahaha

kind of wish i could remove some memories of seeing bands so i can enjoy them live again more, after seeing 300+ shows and a lot of bands a lot i'm rarely blown away as much as i used to

that statement was nothing more than a personal statement in how live music affects me

Seems like you're saying you're above rock music

i mean i saw pwr bttm recently they were really great! car seat put one of the best rock performances i've seen recently last year! japandroids were fantastic two weeks ago! cloud nothings wrecked my body! lots of good stuff going on and i see a lot of good performances but when a lot of performances you see are 8/10 or 9/10 performances it takes something really special to blow you away and end up in the upper echelon

    chill

Best live set I've seen would be Brand New, Circa Survive, Foxing, Julien Baker, Manchester Orchestra, MewithoutYou, Copeland

I guess an important qualifier for me, though, is that I'm only able to attend shows about 4-5 times a year. So, pretty much whenever I buy tickets to a show it's with the knowledge that the band/bands I'm seeing are top notch live, and because of the infrequency I almost never walk away disappointed or underwhelmed.

Living 45 minutes away from the nearest venue that regularly books good shows, never having money, and having intense anxiety about going alone is a bummer.

my highest pantheon of live performances (which a lot of them have to do with time/place in my life as well)

o'brother on the color spectrum tour 2011
born gold at a pitchfork aftershow
the menzingers (especially the first time i saw them)
chris farren any time any project
jeff rosenstock any time any project
foxing right before dealer came out
    bon iver
    the dismemberment plan
    kanye west yeezus tour
    chance the rapper always
    st vincent
rozwell kid when it comes to the fun factor rather than just being blown away
    emperor x (duh)
sufjan (duh, i could probably put emperor x and sufjan as the 5 best performances i've ever seen)
    animal flag
    paramore
the front bottosm (again for fun factor)
car seat headrest in their current live form
    pinegrove

idk what am i saying this list got a lot longer and i changed my standards half way through oops

Pinegrove was awesome on the kevin Devine tour, I have tickets to see them again at some point probably should figure out when that is hah

pinegrove is better the more intimate the setting, the living room show was definitely the best

it's interesting, seeing which bands are better in smaller settings and which ones are better in larger ones.

Pinegrove was the weird outlier for me that actually played just about 15 minutes from where I live last summer. The show was on the same day I got back from vacation in Tennessee and had spent like 8 hours in a car, I almost didn't go because I was so tired but I toughed it out and it ended up being a very fun show.

I wouldn't say quitter is disappointing. I would just say it was a step in a different direction. The podcast has me hopeful they are returning to a much heavier sound on the next record and that we won't be waiting nearly as long to get it.

I think I like it as much as the season, possibly more

I would put both albums pretty even right now. I think they both bring something different and interesting to the table versus the other.

I would say that just based on the ridiculously high hopes and expectations I had for it it was disappointing. But now I've come to accept that and really love it. Probably play it more than the Season still. Who knows how it will hold up on a few months or years.

just needs to hold you over until the next solo record and then until the next LP.. I love how active he's getting. He even said he isn't that prolific ha

was surprised that it wasn't heavier based on what he told me in an interview in like, fucking 2013 (hahahaha), but idk. i listened twice (i know that's not a lot) but nothing really stuck out to me

    exact quote:

you posted that you have 10 demos recorded. Can we get some insight into what you guys are going for on this upcoming record?

I’m glad you said that, because that’s what’s most on our mind as we’re approaching the end of a record cycle. The Season’s done basically everything it can do at this point. People are still buying it, which is awesome, and it’s spreading, but regardless it’s time to do a new one. There’s less production. If you do vocals, you usually do them piece by piece or copy it, but we’re not doing that, it’s just straight vocal takes all the way through the full thing so it sounds more natural. We’re not trying to make it perfect. It sounds like we do live. No clean vocals. Very heavy. A little groove actually. We haven’t grooved before. It definitely sounds more like a rock record, and dirtier. Less clean. Maybe a little funny to the ears at first but nonetheless what we sound like live. That’s the biggest complaint we get from people. “Why are you so different? What are you angry about.” I’m not angry, I just like yelling.

yea thats exactly how the vocals for movement was recorded. my guess is those 10 demos became the EP. really cool though thanks for sharing! I do wish we got a full length like that though would have been cool.
