I would never want Trio without Dan (or Matt), but I just thought about how awesome a band comprised of Matt, Derek, and Brendan Kelly might be. That needs to be a side project one day.

  2. No doubt that'd be an amazing side project, I mean Dan, Brendan and Dave worked out amazingly together for the Falcon. When push comes to shove if either of them left Trio, the band would be done honestly. I know Matt has said numerous times that Derek pretty much saved the band.

Can't see Matt replacing Dan if he left or vice versa. No way.

  4. It's funny, I was talking to Derek at the Dan show recently. And I asked him about the whole Blink situation and he told that Matt was super nervous to talk it over with them because he wasn't sure how they were gonna respond aha. But he also said that him and Dan speak to Matt at least two or three times a week so it's nice to see that bond is there.

Oh yeah, I've never worried less about tension between band members than with these guys. At least Dan and Derek like to do their side stuff too.

  6. Dan and Derek are really, really in to their side projects. It's amazing how much Dan really does tour for The Emergency Room. I mean these three are really workaholics.

Alkaline is getting into gear, Lawrence Arms will be active next year, and we will get a new Wandering Birds record. 2017 is going to be fun.

What are the most "winter-y" Trio albums for you all? Good Mourning, Crimson, and This Addiction remind me the most of the winter months.

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

I would say This Addiction, but I may just be associating the album with its release in February. Good Mourning and Crimson were both released in May, and I remember picking them up in the warmer weather.

  10. Good Mourning for me easily.

Yeah Good Mourning is a model of what winter albums are IMO. I became a fan the fall/winter after that came out so that's when I got the album so that's part of it, but everything about that album feels winters to me. The pictures and art, the production, the lyrics, etc. Matts voice just sounds wintery with the shredded vocals. Even the "happy song" on the album talks about the winter in it haha. Also, Donner Party...

Regardless of release date, it doesn't get more wintery than Good Mourning lol

    Yes with Mark Hoppus.

  14. I'd be furious if that happened lol

I'd probably find it funny at first because it'd be funny to me that two different bands would have the same guitarist, bassist, and vocalists

Then I'd just get depressed because, unlike Blink, it truly would NOT be Alkaline Trio haha

Lol the whining from some blink fans about Matt playing Tom's guitar parts? Multiply that by twenty among the Trio fanbase if Mark tried to play Dan's parts. Love Mark. But it's just not possible lol.

People seriously didn't like Crimson when it came out? I fully admit while I liked the few Alkaline Trio songs I had heard I didn't consider myself a "true" fan. It was only until after Skiba joined blink that I started to listen to his stuff and immediately fell in love with the Trio. Mercy Me was the first song that I loved and Crimson was the first album of theirs I bought (I have since bought the whole catalog).

  18. I mean Tom has shown he's replaceable. That's why I don't get the whining among Blink fans. I love Mark to death, but I don't think he comes close to Dan as an artist. Now I'm not saying Mark isn't talented, because he is obviously.

Crimson did well for them and got plenty of new fans, I think it was mostly the jaded Goddamnit fans that didn't. Some fans that were there since the beginning. I know at one point they had another guitarist on tour which fans probably were like "trio is right in your name how dare you."

Personally I would've killed to see the direct progression from that. Not sure how that would've gone without Jerry though.

I felt like Crimson was a slightly more dumbed down Good Mourning, but I still love it

  23. So, we know Trio is getting back to being active, what should we expect from the next album?

I definitely know I'm expecting great things from Matt vocally. I really feel like his vocals shined on Blink's album with so much energy.

Besides from the handful of shows in Chicago in January has anything been confirmed as to when they're getting back into the studio or touring?
