I've seen Predator 1, 2, and Prey.

I've also seen Alien, Aliens, Prometheus, and Alien: Covenant.

If any of the others are worth watching, let me know ha. Really curious about the Fede Álvarez Alien movie.

 

I love AVP (dumb fun action-horror, might be nostalgic) and I think The Predator is great, but I seem to be alone in that opinion (and I'm much more of an Alien guy fwiw). Alien 3 is definitely worth watching, especially if you can find the workprint edition, even though it doesn't approach the quality of the first two. The tone is almost closer to a character-driven drama, and the studio notoriously interfered with Fincher's vision, but I would call it a good film if you know what you're getting into.

 

Shit, I forgot I have seen AVP. It was actually my introduction to both franchises since it was rated PG-13, so it was the first one I was allowed to watch lol. Pretty sure I never saw Requiem.

I've always been morbidly curious about Alien 3, especially as a huge Fincher fan. I'll see if I can find the workprint edition floating around.

 

The only one I haven't seen is The Predator, but Predators is definitely worth a watch.

Excited for the Álvarez movie and the Noah Hawley FX show.

 

Same for me re: AVP lol. Requiem is one of the worst films I've ever seen, a true outlier in these series that are generally at least enjoyable if not good.

Def check out Alien 3 and report back! It's nowhere near as bad as you're thinking.

 

Is the Workprint edition different than the Assembly Cut?

Same. I think that's the Assembly Cut. Now I'm interested in this other one, sounds like it's a better edit of the Assembly Cut. Too confusing.

 

Oh wow I forgot about the Noah Hawley show. I wonder what the status of that is.

The only comic series I've ever really read was the Alien Versus Predator series in the 90s. I had tons of toys, too. This one was the shit.

 

Yyyup. I eventually had an entire army of aliens vs. predators toys. They were my go-to toys in the 90s besides maybe my wrestling figures.

 

Hah, I had an AVP novelization not based on the movie that was pretty sick. Also, Covenant is so low!!

 

It got delayed, but it is in active preproduction now. They just announced Sydney Chandler was cast as the lead back in May.

 

Also looking at the details that have been mentioned about the plot of the Alien series. It seems like it is going to be very heavy on Weyland-Yutani/Android stuff upfront, and then slowly work it's way to Xenomorph stuff. We know it is going to be pre-Alien, but still not clear if it going to be before or after Prometheus.

 

The only things I remember about Covenant are that Danny McBride is in it and the back burster scene. The rest completely washed over me.

 

Man. I don't think it's the second best Alien movie, but I do think it's as close as they've come to capturing the chaos of Aliens. Just with some Prometheus mythology mixed in.

 

I also remember that James Franco is inexplicably in it as the dead captain in the very beginning. I think it was one of the stunt casting bait and switch marketing things.

 

Covenant had its moments. I really hate Prometheus. Would be cool if we ever got anything as great as Alien again. Aside from the obvious other factors, the franchise is definitely content to rest on its laurels. At least weve had some decent popcorn flicks. I will eagerly await whatever new entries. And Im definitely a fan of shows > movies.
