The melody on “Runner” (the verses) is very close to something….on the top of my tongue. Bothering me that I can’t put my finger on it. Like a 90’s song.

 

As already mentioned, the verse phrasing is briefly identical to “Runaway Train” imo

 

I like a lot of the older songs he’s done, but Rocket and onwards he just has become one of my favorites.

 

A lot of the lyrics for this are on Genius, I wonder if they're just from live performances?

 

Some were played live and also the cd promo photo includes some lyrics
