  1. Feel like this one's pretty easy to parse. We all get where it's coming from, I don't think he's a Nazi. Also probably a very dumb thing to do on stage right now lol

I'm not losing my mind over it, but I'm also not a Jewish person, so maybe let them have their space and opinions.

I've seen so many artists that we aren't allowed to mention on the website for less than what Matty is allowed to get away with.

people always say that yet fail to provide any examples, and matty hasn’t done anything half as bad as bands that still get front page posts. I don’t even think he’s done anything in the last 5 years (or ever in my option) that even warrants a post in this thread yet y’all try and post whatever mild ass shit he did in here constantly

Matty also followed Andrew Tate and countless other controversial/terrible figures. If you pay attention to his interviews he's explained that he enjoys observing the cultural "zeitgeist" as that's part of his artistic process. Additionally, I don't think any fan of the 1975 is going to see him following Kyle Rittenhouse and decide they're a conservative.

To be clear I wasn’t commenting specially to 1975/Matt Healy but in general the vitriol towards some bands an not others is an arbitrary thing often guided by many factors

As a Jewish person, I think there's a lot of worse things to be worried about than a singer doing something clearly to mock a much trashier human being. Like that trashier human being, for example.

That being said, I also come from the experience that I've never really been through discrimination for my religion, and so the sight of the gesture means a lot less to me than someone else for whom it might be triggering.

I dunno, I guess I'm not really adding anything new to this conversation, but that's my take.

I think he's perfectly self-aware and knows that doing a mock nazi salute will get people riled up in one way or another

I also think he's not at all a genuine right-winger and that his worst crimes always seem to be trying too hard to be edgy/provocative for the sake of it.

Which as mentioned above is something that artists have always been doing, and is annoying and not worth defending but also not at all on par with someone genuinely believing/advocating such things lol

imo this is not the sort of thing that needs to be hashed out in public and am confused why they felt the need to cancel their shows
cheating is a shitty thing to do but I don’t see how exposing it makes anyone safer? isn’t that the point of public call outs- to make the music scene a safer place?

There’s more discussion in the bands album thread but this was shared there and I feel it best aligns with what you said (and I agree completely):

  19. i could see if someone were picking up new partners in different cities on tour and lying to all of them maybe, but that doesn’t sound like what was going on here

the pinegrove thing was potentially closer to that though maybe? at least it seemed more like a using-his-influence-on-fans-in-potentially-not-great-ways situation. could be misremembering. i agree we shouldn’t know about any of it, regardless

using the language of assault and abuse to describe cheating is a really not good thing to do

I mean, I’d agree re: this band

I’ve seen people in this thread consider the cycle of repeated instances of cheating and lying as emotional abuse, not all instances of cheating but maybe I’m wrong. I don’t think that’s too big of a leap

that’s not even to mention the fucked up implications of having unprotected sex with a bunch of people, in addition to a long term partner, without them knowing
