Fuck you. Accusing me of being racist based on hating Kanye and nothing else while agreeing he is a jackass in the same post. Unbelievable. That was totally uncalled for. Have a terrible day.

I Like to call it group therapy and instead of us all jumping down each other throats, we should be talking things out like actual adults. Nothing is going to evolve if we don't...right?!

Speaking for myself, it's definitely enlightened me to behavior like love bombing and how not to treat or interact with others. Like, I really do find this a valuable resource because I'm just not that connected to regular entertainment news sites because most have been beaten down to being clickbait nonsense.

I also can't blame others for finding it to tough to stomach on a daily basis. It's why I only visit the General Politics forum on occasion now, because while I found it cathartic to talk with like-minded people, a constant feed of awful news can be so emotionally overbearing. I'm with others on hoping this is more of a forum for discussing the behavior of the artists posted rather than the "Fuck that guy" or "Who would have guessed they'd do that?" But I think that kind of snark is also just baked into this forum/our society to not have to deal with the overbearing weight of it all.

  5. There's been a lot of frustration in this thread over the years about the contradiction between wanting to hold famous people accountable and our complete lack of ability to do so as posters on the internet. It's been really hard for us to find a middle ground where we can spread awareness in a productive way that doesn't devolve into some kind of argument. I know you're new here so I hope none of this is discouraging. I think everyone here is trying! And I know everyone here would want to make sure you (and anyone in that situation) don't feel like we're contributing to you having to deal with that. Hope you can at least be assured that when stuff deteriorates like this in here, at least now after years of this thread, it's almost always ultimately the result of people trying their best and others being frustrated with how little power we can actually exert in society. All of us want to make a safe environment for everyone, exactly so we can support each other like you said.

I second this. After years of feeling like no one understood me or heard me in the threads, I want to be open to listen to every side without flipping my shit. I'm also older now so I've calmed tf down, lol.....and weed helps :shrug2::rotfl:

I get the discourse around what this thread should or shouldn't be but idk. Like mentioned before, I think there could be a lot of reasons to post something. It could be the "aha!" Moment to someone realizing they're in an abusive situation. I didn't realize I was in an abusive situation until I heard a Christina Aguilera song about abuse and realized I related to it a bit too much and it got my wheels turning. Like that sounds ridiculous but denial and grooming is very real and you never know what will be someone's aha realization moment so drawing attention to certain things is good. Whether that's accountability or not is a different thing, but I do think it has value.

Kanye has been called "crazy" since saying George Bush didn't care about black people (possibly before then too idk), when he didn't lie. Some people made the discourse around him so black and white when I think there were more complexities to it and it led to people defending him maybe longer than they should've. Idk. I think when a celebrity gets a lot of ridiculous criticism mixed in with legitimate criticism its easy to write it off as "haters" and focus on the racially charged criticism or the bad takes and ignore that there is valid critique. I'm glad that people are realizing what he's doing now and I'm sad that he's hurting others. Lots of ppl with mental illness don't abuse others and it's weird to watch this play out publicly.

I'll be really honest, I didn't notice a "change" in Kanye until after his mom passed away ***see that year he stormed the VMA stage*** and its just gotten progressively worse.

Bottom line, the man needs help before he completely destroys Kim's life, his kids life and his own.

  12. I think it's worth noting there are some severe mental illnesses that can drastically change someone's behavior to the point where they can be, if not abusive, at least acting with complete disregard for others. No specific reason to think that's happening with Kanye I suppose but that is something I think of when people say lots of people with mental illness don't hurt others, which I do understand is ultimately meant to reduce stigma but I think the corollary that mental illness can never be the main driver of such behavior isn't necessarily correct.

There are so many possibilities as to what is really going on in that mind of his...but man, its scary as shit to watch all this go down. I'm worried for Kim, her kids, her entire family and for Kanye. I would hate to see this all end with a terrible tragedy. I would feel this way for anyone, famous or not.

  14. Yeah it's a terrifying situation and feels very eerie to watch play out online. Really very dark and the jokes about it feel very strange.

Want to be clear I wasn't saying that applied to Kanye at all (who knows) but just as a general point

I'm not referring to anyone on here but seeing people make stupid jokes about the whole Kanye/Kim thing has actually made me feel physically ill because I keep having flashbacks to a few years ago when someone pulled pretty much all of the same behaviors he's been doing on me except for the lovebombing. And I know it's not something most people would take me seriously on as someone who's AMAB. But I am glad that most of you seem to understand that his actions are emotionally abusive.

Thanks I appreciate you adding that. It can be tough, espesh since we as the public don't know everything.

I remember my abuser using his mental health as a sort of justification for his actions and it can be a weird area. I remember feeling like because I knew my abuser had been through trauma and did have these issues, I was a bad person for abandoning someone in a time of need. I'd be lying if i said that didnt keep me in the situation longer. I can only speculate if Kim felt similarly regarding Kanye, but it bums me out to see some people guiltiling Kim online because Kanye has mental health issues and lost his mom. Not on this site thankfully, but I wish there was more nuance in some of the general conversation that like you can hope Kanye gets whatever help he needs while supporting Kim's decision and need for safety. After she was robbed a while back I can't can't imagine her own trauma that gets ignited when Kanye behaves this way. Her security is probably incredibly tight right now. At least I hope so.

The band posted this about it a while back. Regardless of what else may have happened, he admits to cheating on his partner for roughly 2 years here, which is whack. Dude sucks.

  22. Man I’ll never understand promoters/artists/festivals not enforcing as many COVID safety protocols as they can. You’d think it’d be in their own best interest to mitigate the spread of a virus that more or less shut down live music for nearly two years and left many in the industry without income or jobs indefinitely

  23. Venues are getting flack for taking too long to get ticket-holders into venues. Anecdotally, I recently missed a performer I traveled two hours to see because the line was so long (on a two-band bill, no less). Showed up at doors, but they still started the gig with 100+ waiting outside. And this was a theater.

So, rather than opening up venues earlier, they're cutting covid restrictions to speed things up.
