Idk obviously having a large and dedicated fanbase is kind of the dream. But sometimes I can’t help side eyeing artists a little bit that have these unquestionably toxic fans and do pretty much nothing to keep them in check — and I don’t mean just when a problem arises. As stan culture regularly fans the flames throughout issues of accountability, it kinda forces me to think about to what degree artists are responsible for perpetuating an environment for stans to even flourish in the first place, and what an effort to minimize stan culture even looks like

Like as someone who definitely sees the acknowledgement of stan culture as part of the accountability process — i.e. calling off rabid fans to allow survivors privacy, respect, and the space to be heard — it sucks to know that even if a band like All Time Low did the right thing by either admitting fault to the allegations or asking fans to lay off, the stans wouldn’t let it go. Is there any sort of expectation that can be set for popular artists that would even relatively help to mitigate that kind of behavior? Is this a galaxy brain thought to even be having?
