when you have to lead with “there’s a lot to respond to” there’s a significant problem

Also I don’t understand why he’s crying about her not wanting to have a “mediated conversation” with him? And I’m confused as to why he thinks she “elected not to pursue” accountability measures with him? It seems like she’s decided how she wants him to be held accountable in a pretty clear way. Take a look around you my guy.

Seems like a guy trying to get sympathy and using a lot of the right words. Why even bring up the cops being misogynistic? Everything is done to manipulate the reader into thinking "I'm not like those guys, I haave to be innocent here. I just wanted to talk but I had to cry in a cell :("

Okay, this is the only place I know to ask this, but why the fuck do so many people give Michael Jackson a pass? He’s one of the worst people to ever be in music but I still hear him played everywhere and bands are still covering his songs and I just don’t get it. Am I missing something?

I just don't know how "dead" keeps him around. I get he was an icon, but the dude was legit with kids 10 and younger. It's not even a matter of like, old rockstars with teens during an age where it was acceptable. It's just straight-up pedophilia. I don't know. I just didn't know where else to bring it up.

a lot of people falsely hang on to the idea of the cycle of abuse and his dad was a real pos, plus you really can't cancel someone at that level

Not to mention a lot of people still don't believe he did anything wrong. I mean it was at least an open rumor as long as I can remember even knowing who he was and no one did anything.

It also probably doesn’t help that all of the controversy surrounding Michael was floating around in the cultural lexicon for decades and was usually brushed off as murky, or even joked about. By the time most people became invested in genuinely identifying abusive behavior it wasn’t really the shocking bomb drop that causes people to drop artists from their lives anymore. I think a lot of people have for long been primed to just accept that as “part of it” with him

I worked directly with his first cousin, who is still active with his MJ's immediate family in Gary, IN/the area and plays percussion with family members' bands in the area. I tried to get his opinion on the whole MJ thing MANY times. He would just refuse to talk about any of it at the time. So much that he would get mad at me for asking and I started to think he was lying to me that he was in the family. He would end up showing me family photos from over the years. Pretty wild stuff. They still hold MJ events in the area as if nothing ever happened.

It’s like John Lennon or David Bowie, you cannot cancel someone who is that massive

My take on the Michael Jackson thing is that most people just ignore it. They love his music and just don’t think about the other stuff. Honestly it sounds ludicrous but I truly believe the explanation is that simple.

Also yeah cancel culture doesn’t even exist for, like, scene bands, so as @iCarly Rae Jepsen he’s at a level where the idea of cancelling him is kind of preposterous.

I feel like the HBO doc convinced a lot of people finally but at they choose to ignore it because he's such a big artist

There's a lot of responses here, but thank you all for the input. I don't agree with it, but I get it. It's hard to "cancel" an icon. I think just as someone who has had sexual situations with adults when I was a minor I just get very uncomfortable hearing his music. I can live with rockstars who were with teens in an era where that was considered okay, I do have Bowie's face tattooed on my skin, but being with kids who haven't even gone through puberty yet I just can't shake. I had a hard time even making it through the HBO documentary because the subject matter.

I physically react whenever I hear his voice, I’m always incredibly uncomfortable whenever one of his songs comes on.

Why would it be your business? Of course he'd get mad at you. This is such a weird outlook, like... he didn't owe you an explanation, why act like he was in the wrong for not wanting to discuss what is, despite how big Jackson was, a personal matter you're not involved in?

  24. Sorry to hear you went through that pal. I haven’t intentionally listened to MJ in years, but he’s undeniably unavoidable and I can’t imagine having to deal with that salt in the wound all the time
