Listen, I said my piece. I was clear in what I said about lasting vs. non-lasting consequences. You have an issue with what I said, that's your business.

    Thanks for your input.

Sometimes I think y’all are anticipating them coming back just so you can be the first to criticize it. At this point there’s no evidence they’re ever coming back, and until they do - a big IF they do - don’t waste your energy on something that hasn’t happened.

I’m pretty sure most of rumors come from Reddit, who are so desperate for a reunion that anyone of us could pose as a Livenation insider with secret info and they’d run with it.

I remember speaking to a coworker at my old job who had a BN tattoo just after the allegations came to light and she basically said "oh well, I don't care, it's still me favourite tattoo," so yeah, people really do not give a fuck.

(Granted the Covid pandemic has uncovered the fact she's anti-vax, so she's clearly not the best person going around)

I respect everyone in this thread, I really do.

but i gotta say, it is weird how often BN is brought up in here. Every few months this Convo happens.

They haven’t made a peep in nearly four years. There’s no reason to keep bringing them up again.

I dont necessarily disagree, but, idk i think there still should remain a space to discuss feelings surrounding the band should people need to/want to, and this is probably the best thread possible for those discussions. Nobody here today was speaking in praise or support, which is an entirely different story.

I don’t think it’s weird. They’re a band that was long intertwined with this site/community and meant a lot to both prior to the end of 2017. Healthy discussion around the complicated feelings people have about them is inevitable, and that’s okay.

  8. I agree in theory, but healthy discussions about complicated feelings towards problematic artists are...not typically the kinds of conversations had on this site

Yeah honestly, and this isn't me defending any of the problematic bands discussed in here, but the discussion usually ends up with people instantly shaming others who mention that they still listen to problematic artists (and not because the people listening don't care about accountability, for reasons shared in the next paragraph), or have conflicted feelings on such artists. I feel like " healthy discussions about complicated feelings towards problematic artists" aren't a thing that...ever happen on here.

For some people it's not a case where they can just instantly stop listening to a problematic artist, as much as some people don't like that. Especially when it's a band that has been a part of their lives for many years and they have formed a big connection to said band/their music.

People blindly supporting abusers in here isn't cool or the point of this thread at all, but this space actually being one to have "healthy discussions about complicated feelings towards problematic artists" would probably be more beneficial than some of the ways this thread is currently used. I know people have brought up the idea of having a space to talk about their feelings towards a band they still have (positive) feelings towards but nothing has ever materialized from those ideas.

lol healthy conversations, good one, if I honestly had a conversation about my thoughts on brand new and relationship with their music today I’m pretty sure half you would block me and the other half would run me off this site

look no further than the people making up fake scenarios of the band definitely getting back together within a year and getting mad about it to get a real pulse on how ridiculously unproductive this shit is, and has been for years. so many of us have begged for any kind of collective change in approach to these conversations and it’s just in one ear out the other for certain people. it’s a scenario that plays out over and over again all over this website but curiously doesn’t happen when you have real life face to face conversations with another human being. but whatever not gonna stress myself out about it just wanted to chime in since everyone else always has something to say about it

None of my conversations in real life reflect this forum, whether that be good or bad. I’ve always respected the point of this thread, but yeah. Always turns into mud slinging.

Honestly I think this thread just needs to be archived at this point. It was a good experiment but it's been misused for a long time now, to the point that it seemingly can't serve the purpose it was intended to serve. Would probably be best if it was kept up but closed down to further comments so that people don't have to see it and the things posted within it if they don't want to anymore.

I don't think closing the thread is necessary, it IS helpful in learning about problematic artists and folks in the music industry (especially in cases where something isn't widely shared and people would otherwise have been unaware if not for this thread). I DO think that it can and should be improved, and that's mainly what I was getting at with my previous reply.

the whole "what should this thread really be used for" discussion/debate is as old as the website itself, it always goes in circles, there is no improving this thread.

I'm not sure this thread has ever actually helped or informed me in a helpful way...It's either:

    1) Tweets about some artist I never have/never would listen to anyway, that did something super shitty. Which then just makes me feel sad about something that I have zero control over. What can I do? Not listen to them more? I was better off that person being an absolute nobody in my life.

    2) Tweets about an artist I do listen to that I would have found out about anyway because...I'm aware of news about artists I listen to.

I would love a non-toxic version of this thread that feels safer to post in, but the steps it would take to get there (establishing vague posting guidelines to justify banning folks) aren't worth it. So I'm left with just declining to participate.

part of the reason this thread never improves and these discussions go in circles is because the people who are at fault are seemingly incapable of self-reflection and think that it's everyone else who's the problem

if you don't think you are part of the problem then you are part of the problem lol

To be honest, it's actually not that hard to improve this thread. Just cut each other a little slack! Don't be an asshole! There's a prevalent attitude among some that listening to Brand New or whatever is tantamount to commiting the crimes of Jesse Lacey. Let's just admit that we're all trying to work this out.

And I say this knowing I'm not perfect, I was slinging some comments in the Kanye thread the other day that probably weren't helpful to a productive dialogue.

At the end of the day, what good is it shitting on someone for listening to Kanye while you're listening to Spotify on your Apple computer, booting up an Activision game, sipping on a Coke while you wait for Deliveroo to deliver your McDonald's order. No one has pure consumption habits.

Since everyone here clearly thinks everyone else is the problem and can't be convinced otherwise, there's no point in having this thread solely so it can be the venue for all these toxic back-and-forth circular arguments. Hence why it needs to just be archived.

Yeah but nobody has actually said anyone who listens to Brand New in private is a piece of shit or "tantamount to committing the crimes of Jesse Lacey" or whatever, and the fact that people keep framing it that way is part of why this problem can never get solved. There's a fundamental misunderstanding between people here that can't be fixed despite years of conversations about it at this point. Better to just archive the thread and let everyone move on from it, it seems like that would solve the problem and make the largest amount people feel more comfortable on this site.
