What I bolded is what I posted earlier. So this would then prove he did NOT talk to all previous intimate partners (based on the timelines and the 'you forgot one' tweet), so for him to conclude that accusations were baseless is completely irresponsible.

He either DID talk to her and put out statement saying accusations were baseless or did NOT talk to her but talked to others and based on those conversations, for whatever reason, he came to conclusion that accusations were baseless.

Just a reckless statement on so many levels.

Oh yeah I agree with you. I think we all thought that part of the statement was super sketchy, even without the confirmation today that they had not spoken.

Also I don’t know why I got my hopes up that they would respond better, but r/emo is totally falling apart now. The first couple threads weren’t awful but now all the terrible opinions are coming out of the woodwork.

it was all a dream Prestigious

i think its because its getting linked outside of the community. i feel like /r/emo at the core is somewhat more reasonable than the reddit community as a whole. i haven't delved into /r/emo much but i feel like the mods are reasonable

Yeah that’s probably a good point. I think the actual statement about what happened is still pretty much supportive and healthy.

I don't know what The Wonder Years might have known about Cam before taking them to Europe, but don't they sort of have a history of sticky by/promoting people that are known to be shitty?

At least once without a doubt. I haven’t followed them as closely for a few years so I’m not sure about anything more recent.

They don’t, no. Which is Why this situation is so disappointing if they knew.

Are you sure about that? I'm not a huge follower of the band but I distinctly remember and uproar when this was still AP about how they were supporting an absolute garbage human and refused to disassociate from him.

While I’m not sure if it constitutes a “history” they kept JJR around for a while longer than they should’ve IMO and they never made any sort of statement about him after they let him go.

They weren't supporting JJR though? Or promoting him? Everything went down behind the scenes

They fired and cut all ties with JJR, and donated to victim-supporting charities as well. I don’t know how that constitutes sticking by him. It didn’t happen as fast as it should’ve but they never publicly supported him after it came out and ultimately did the right thing.

I mean, they were employing him, and they didn’t cut ties immediately, it definitely took a bit. *shrug*

Not saying it should be an issue at this point but I also don’t think it should be wiped from their slate.

  16. “Cut all ties” would not be the word choice I’d use if using the collective “they” for the band.

There were members of the band who were very hesitant to cut ties or speak out, if I recall correctly

Like I said I haven't followed TWY intently but I do remember it being a big topic here that they kept whoever it was around and people were upset about it. I merely mentioned it because someone says that they alerted them to Cam's abusive behavior and it points to them again kind of shrugging that sort of thing off.

Eh, anyone can move the goal posts if they wish, the original question was “sticking by/promoting people that are known to be shitty” and they neither stuck by nor promoted JJR after he was known to be shitty. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not exactly the same as promoting someone

    “Sticking by” fits tho, right?

Were they sticking by him though? Like, publically defending him and saying he did nothing wrong? Or was the situation handled behind the scenes?

  25. Depends what you consider promoting I suppose. They ‘promote’ a label that sure hasn’t done enough imo. But, beside that I definitely don’t wanna relitigate the personal relationships of everyone and JJR again and what members of the band did or didn’t do or said publicly or kept private. I saw messages from band members to people on AP (that they showed me) that is more than enough for me to say the above about cutting all ties. However, this has ruined more than enough time of my life and I’ve no desire to do it again.

I cannot confirm the identity of the poster above in regard to if they reached out to TWY’s management, but I did confirm they have the correct email address for two people I know that work with the band.
