That’s very disappointing. I discovered the album recently.

 

no condescension whatsoever, I’m straight up telling you it’s fucked to even suggest that it’s an excuse for what he did regardless of who is making the suggestion

 

I have compassion for the person Conley abused. For Conley himself, I have nothing.

Everyone focusing on him and his healing and his process, like that matters one bit in this situation.

He absolutely did by bringing it up in his statement. Saying “it’s not an excuse” is his cover. By bringing it up he wants it to be in people’s heads when they’re processing this situation regardless of how many times he then says it’s not an excuse. It’s a classic manipulation tactic.

It’s not relevant in any way to what he did, he shouldn’t have even mentioned it.

This is fair, and I guess I didn’t consider that it could be a manipulation tactic.

I still do think this thread got a little weird at me suggesting I thought it was a decent statement, and by seeing the relevance in the use of that in his statement. I think it could’ve been more of a conversation and learning experience for me, but it seemed to just be aggressive outside of one user

i think there was a lil conflict in this conversation because of your compassion and empathy towards Chris Conley. While it is understood that you empathize with him due to similar demons (understandable) there was an absence of understanding separation from those personal issues to his causing others harm. This conversation should only be about Chris Conley’s actions and not some of the potential sources of those actions.

And I admitted I was potentially being overly defensive because of that VERY early on in this conversation before the conflict began. I still think there was a lot of selective reading done, and people seemed to resort to gang mentality instead of actual conversation. We all can learn from each other(which is what I assumed this thread would be used for), and I’ve agreed with a few points from you, and Anthony. I think there was no reason for it to have become heated, as I said I don’t condone his actions, am glad he stepped down, and hope he gets help so he doesn’t hurt anyone in the future.

 

shit yeah, your defense comes from personal experience/the struggle and the defense you’re seeing from posters comes from them and lots of others being sick and tired of band members abusing their platforms and causing harm to their fans/their loved ones.

don’t take it so personally, the hostility, for lack of a better term, is understandable.. and your initial defense, the source of it, is understandable.

 

Had a bad feeling about Eric when that previous stuff surfaced around the time the album came out, despite not really being able to make sense of it. Chalked it up to there being fault on both sides, cancelled my preorder and waited to see if anything else happened with them. This is much more clear-cut, and I’m glad to see Counter Intuitive dropping their band. More labels should do that when stuff like this comes out.

I think the part that bothers me about the STD apology is where he’s like “this happened, there’s pictures as proof and I’m not going to attempt to spin it to make me look better, but here’s how it’s totally not what it looks like”

I disagree, mostly because the apology is only coming because he was outed, so he was forced to put something together quickly.

Just my opinion here, no celebrity who has ever had to issue one of these is actually sorry for their behavior. It seems very obvious this is who he is and this behavior would have continued had he not been found out.

He’s sorry he got caught.
