File under: Reason #1,000,000,000,001 why victims don’t come forward. Also that Nicole person is scum.

I wonder why they included that part about his health at this time.

They should drop off the tour completely and also who cares about Cam's health right now?

Their post can easily be read as him being on suicide watch, especially given the fact that his mental health is the reason his bands are stopping in the first place. That shouldn’t be wished on anyone in any situation.

I didn't wish anything on anyone. I just meant that Cam's health isn't the most important thing right now considering the severity of the situation and it seems self-serving of them to include that bit in the statement.

It’s still a very flippant response to something that is incredibly serious. There’s nothing wrong with mentioning that as part of a statement that covers a lot of things all at once.

To me, it reads as the band taking advantage of his documented mental health issues in a self-serving attempt to soften some of the blowback. Which I don't personally find to be a very good thing to do. There's no reason for that detail to be in there, the statement is just as effective in conveying its message without it. If you had a different interpretation, so be it. I'm not getting into a fight about this.

  13. Call me cynical, but the way it was inserted into the statement (when really, it should've been a separate statement IF it was made at all) feels more like a way to convert possible backlash into sympathy.

It's horrible if his mental health has brought him to that place and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. But it just isn't the point right now - the point is accountability for what he's done.

This. I may also be being cynical but we've seen this tactic used so many times before.

That’s definitely a fair thing to worry about, but I still disagree with it being treated as “who cares” if it truly is that serious. If he really is in such a dangerous place that he may harm himself, that is no place for any accountability or anything else to happen. It’s disappointing to see something that severe being treated as if it doesn’t matter by multiple people here.

you are doing quite literally what the band intended by rushing to defend his mental health. jesus.

Never said it doesn't matter. Never said nobody should care ever. All I said was who cares "right now." If he needs to get help, he should get help. But his mental health issues don't detract from what he appears to have done, and by tying that detail into their statement they seem to be asking for sympathy over accountability. You can hold him accountable while also hoping he gets the mental health treatment he needs, just like @Anna Acosta said. We can do both things. But the focus should be on the victim right now; a quick scroll through the replies to the statement already shows the "Is this really rape?" question being asked. I hope Cam gets the help he needs if he's really in that place but his mental health doesn't take priority over the victim's story. The statement appears to be trying to do exactly that.

Can't believe this required that many words but here we are.

I’m not defending his actions or the band at all. I was ready to write him off after the first post came out and today’s account just sealed the deal. But saying that someone’s mental health doesn’t matter at all is just so gross and so against what this site stands for. Self harm is not something to be cavalier about for anyone, ever.

  19. This argument is not needed. His mental health is something I care about right now if he’s suicidal. If the wording was a ploy for sympathy that’s bad. And you can also care about the victim and support them while wanting to make sure someone, even someone that’s done horrible things, is in a place to protect them from self harm.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

It really just didn’t need to be brought up at all in that statement and definitely comes across as a way to get sympathy.

And maybe I’m cynical but for both of his bands to be going on farewell tours right before this news comes out is suspect

It's a shitty situation all around. But most importantly Cam r***d someone and that person did not have control of if and how their story was shared. The victim and supporting them, however that looks like in their best interests, is what is most important. Cam should be held accountable for what he's done and do what the victim requests, if anything, to make it right and allow the victim to move forward and handle how he gets help with regard to his actions and his rehabilitation, if that's something that's possible.

Of course Cam should get the help he needs if he is suffering right now and in no way is anyone saying he shouldn't or that his health doesn't matter at all.

But Cam's accountability and Cam's mental health are two separate issues, and addressing them can happen separately and at the same time, or at different times. So them mentioning the one only seems to misdirect the focus of what is happening. If that wasn't their intention, fine, but it's at least not the best way they could have incorporated his situation into the statement, or if they should have even included his situation in their statement at all.
